  1. Nice athleticism. Bartolo Colon wouldn't have made that play.
  2. Why isn't he getting more strikeouts? Reminds me of Sanchez that way.
  3. It shouldn't take Sanchez to land him unless we're way out of touch. Boyd maybe? I'd make that trade but hopefully they go after someone a little bit better than Latos.
  4. Assuming he turns it around. A few awful starts but otherwise has been alright.
  5. Rangers: Choo Odor Fielder Beltre Moreland Andrus Gallo Martin Chirinos
  6. No I don't. We have no idea what the Phillies are looking for, but I bet they hang up the phone if that's the offer.
  7. Did people say that? I'm ready to ship out both of them...
  8. Do you need predictive stats to tell you a guy won't give up 3 homers per start? He seemed ok, and gets a definite pass for his major league debut. He's not a special pitcher but could be a good back end guy IMO. Still should be dealt soon.
  9. It's funny because Haren is not a #1 pitcher. I don't know what you mean by "#1 results" so I laughed out loud. How about today? Hamels had a better chance to keep them to 0 or 1-2 runs than Haren did. I don't understand your argument still. To be honest, I think Samardzija + Nate Jones is a better package to target than Hamels and Papelbon based on what I anticipate it will cost but we'll see what happens.
  10. I don't know, he's a top 20 pitcher for sure, not top 10 but maybe in the best 15. I was joking about unstoppable force, he said that Haren could give #1 pitcher results which I found a bit funny.
  11. His offspeed stuff is unreal. His fastball is wayyyy too hitable though. He's an interesting target if they want to go the cheaper route.
  12. Yeah but, Hamels makes the team a lot better, whereas Haren makes the team a little bit better. What does overpay even mean? They're sacrificing some guys not ready and who could bust for a proven ace. Do you deal Norris + Pompey for Hamels? It's tough to swallow but I would definitely consider it. If Haren provides No. 1 starter results then what does Hamels provide? An unstoppable force? Automatic win day?
  13. I don't know what that means. Haren is a good pitcher and Hamels is an ace. The Jays are more than a Haren away still I think.
  14. Totally agree. They should be willing to give up a lot (Norris or Hoffman + Pompey) for Hamels + Papelbon if they can work out the contracts. If they suck in 2018 nobody will care if they make a couple postseason runs, and maybe even get a ring!
  15. Hoffman + Pompey for Hamels? Get it done.
  16. Addison Russell (a top 10 prospect at the time) got a year and a half of Samardzija + 3 months of Hammel. Eduardo Rodriguez (I like him just as much or better than Norris but it's debatable) got half a year of Andrew Miller. Hamels is on a pretty reasonable contract considering it's only 3 more years + a vesting option. He's absolutely going to get at least one player as good as Norris/Hoffman and probably more.
  17. Well, Michael Taylor was a top 30 or so prospect at the time, so you'd think Norris would be on the table.
  18. Ya I agree. 3 years + vesting option left, not too bad for an ace starter. Might have to throw Norris their way to get him though.
  19. Does anyone know the financial situation in Philly right now? Are they going to try and shed payroll for the rebuild? Or would they be trying to eat some of Hamels contract? It's doubtful that the Jays would take on the whole contract.
  20. Absolutely, although what would the Jays even give up? I assume they'd want the Phillies to cover some of the salary.
  21. I am not in the stat nerd camp since some stats get misused, but that being said I'm not sure what you're arguing here. You're saying we shouldn't want Samardzija because his numbers weren't that good in the minors? Nobody cares about that, he's a much better pitcher than Sanchez is right now and the Jays have a window to contend with an obvious need in a starter. Are there idiots who think his last few starts were luck? He's quite clearly pitched better lately but it doesn't mean he's on the same level of a 200 IP reliable pitcher like Samardzija...
  22. Do you trade him in a deal for Samardzija? The window is closing with Bautista/EE on cheap contracts. I'm a fan of going for it when it makes sense and between 2014-2016 might be their best chance for a while.
  23. That's true, there is a nonzero chance of just about anything happening. Brett Cecil could become a starter again. I can't see the scenario because I can't envision it happening. I thought you were on the Sanchez hype train but it turns out you aren't really, which is good.
