Navarro isn't the answer if Martin misses three months. More of Martin's value is tied up in defense than offense. Something Navarro isn't very good at. The offense could probably get by with a Martin injury. The defense and entire staff would take a hit though. I'd much rather have a good defender to back him up than Navarro.

I'd be interested to hear from those who want to keep Thole as to what intangibles Thole has that make him a better option than Martin. Martin is a professional athlete. He will be able to make the adjustments necessary to catch Dickey. I'm sure this was brought up when he signed. Stash Thole in AAA. Since his only value seems to be the ability to catch a knuckleball I see no reason why he wouldn't clear waivers.

Escobar seems to have been more than a throw in, the A's had claimed him off of (revocable) waivers late last year.

It's very hard to quantify the success rates of these players through a ranking system because the rankings are subjective.

Haha, even TV threads get derailed sometimes by baseball talk it seems. I've enjoyed this thread purely because there is f*** all else to talk about right now. Hopefully once the new year comes we get some real news regarding Toritani. I think that he's the most likely scenario for the Jays, more so than Asdrubal.

Ya the guy is set. Pretty hard to comprehend. Hopefully he can stay healthy for the duration of his career and concrete himself as a generational player. Can you imagine the women?! Just imagine them!
