  1. Definitely not what I remember. Must've been Coors Light night or something.
  2. Missed the boat on that one
  3. Is there still the huge beer bottle in right field? Maybe my memory is faded, but I remember something beer related behind right field that a bunch of us 18 year olds thought was the coolest thing haha.
  4. Completely agree. I have a couple friends who are 25+ who are still playing Indy ball. Living the dream really, they're doing what many of us only dream of doing. If I was in the situation where I was single without any commitments I'd ride that bitch out as long as I could.
  5. I agree with you, but I don't like saying that "we missed out" per se. It could've been that playing for the Dodgers was more appealing, AA was comfortable with the price, etc. Unless its a situation like the Darvish one, where all that was required was ponying up cash, its nearly impossible to say for sure the Jays weren't in on him. Just my opinion. Your assessment is spot on though.
  6. The odds of the Jays landing one of Price/Cueto/Greinke or whoever else next offseason are probably significantly smaller than signing Shields right now. As it stands, next season's rotation will probably still require the addition of another SP, so why not take care of that now by signing Shields? Basically replacing Buehrle as a younger, more effective guy who can log 200 innings, while reducing the risk of this rotation this season. Stroman Hutch Dickey Norris? ? That's what the rotation looks like in 2016 as it stands. Adding Shields allows you to focus on other areas of need (1B/RF, 2B?).
  7. And that's completely fair as well. To each their own. For me, I enjoy reading others opinions on what it would take to happen, if they think it's a good/bad idea and why, etc. There are obviously differing levels of interest on this board, ranging from casual lurkers to people who have very good insight. As for looking towards another scenario, if it was December yes I would. I thought Brandon McCarthy was the perfect target for the Jays. But that ship has long sailed, and Shields seems to be one of the last remaining feasible options to improve SP until the season actually starts.
  8. I'm sure he will. King just thought it would be cool if he ended up with the Goldeyes. I know guys who have bounced around Indy ball, playing wherever they can really, just because they don't want to hang them up yet. Canada or not.
  9. What do you suggest discussing on February 6th? This is part of being a fan, and it's fun to bounce ideas and opinions off of other fans who actually know what they're talking about. It creates for great dialogue. I'd much rather be discussing James Shields here, than asking my casual fan friends what they think. Because I know their answers.
  10. And Donaldson!
  11. Meh, sometimes guys don't have a choice. It's either play where you're wanted, or hang them up.
  12. It really comes down to whether or not the front office view him as a guy who can still put up 3 win seasons over that contract. He's been a 3.5+ fWAR guy for the last 8 years save for 2010 with the Rays. Biggest concern obviously is the amount of miles on that arm. Sometimes, paying the guy who seems to be a lock can be a better long term decision than trying to find the next guy who is undervalued. Shields is who he is- a sexier MB (I think NJH said this).
  13. I think a lot of teams would feel comfortable at 4/70 for him. 17.5M AAV for a 3 win pitcher is justifiable. Quick math is 9 wins @ 7M = 63M not accounting for rising salaries, so it's probably a wash in terms of value. I'm not an expert, but those 3 wins depending where you are on the win curve should be more valued by a team that's close to the playoffs. Essentially, he's not coming to TO on a discount. He's coming to TO if they offer him the most. 4/75 is probably the least amount that he would end up in Toronto for as I really don't think he would have a problem signing for 4/70 today if he wanted to. Just depends how long the market holds out.
  14. Seems the longer this takes, the more likely he is to end up there IMO. Does he sign today? We heard it could happen by the end of the week.
  15. Because at 4/70 there are a lot more desirable places to be for James Shields than Toronto.
  16. I don't think the Jays can land Shields at 4/70. Maybe, maybe 4/75 but that's about the lowest I can see him coming to TO for. That rotation has lots of stability and some upside in it. It's just too bad I don't expect him in Toronto.
  17. ITT: People acting like AA offered 5/100
  18. I can't say rather without knowing the dollars, but I do agree he seems to be a great fit right now.
  19. There's no doubt Shields is an upgrade over Buehrle. Taking a load off the pen would provide a big boost as well. All this being said, I'm sure I'll wake up tomorrow and he'll be a Padre or something.
  20. Great atmosphere and one of the nicest parks around. I got to play there as a 15 year old with Team Sask. Good memories there!
  21. I'd rather keep Beuhrle than deal him, and I don't really know if any teams would be willing to take on that entire contract, even as a salary dump. You are right though, there are definitely ways to get creative. I'd love to see him in Toronto, but only if he's paid like a #2, and not like "Big Game James". 600 innings from Shields, Buehrle and Dickey would be about as sure of a thing as you can get.
  22. The Jays need to give as many starts as they can to their best pitcher. Thus, Stroman should start the season opener. Followed by Dickey, Hutch, Buerhle and Estrada/Norris/Sanchez. I really think you maximize Hutch by having him follow Dickey. With Martin behind the dish and pitching behind RA, he could have a big year.
  23. AA is going to have to get creative with payroll to have a shot. Navarro trade in the works?
  24. Might be my biggest derp on the BJMB, as I realize that Ang thinks he's a douche.
  25. That's a top 3 favorite Bautista moment of all time. The guy just doesn't give a f***, all he wants to do is win.
