So Brad Keller is kind of annoyingly effective with his groundball rate.
Will be interesting to see if the Jays can get the ball in the air off him. Ostensibly the Jays have some minor groundball and double-play issues. Well, we have one big hitter who has those issues.
fat + short
baseball: it's possible. not easy, but possible.
hockey: short yes, fat not so much
basketball: short NO, fat NO but sort of if you are tall and fat
soccer: short yes, fat not so much
football: fat yes (LB), short yes (RB), but NOT BOTH
Tonight is a good example of the three times through the order penalty. If Kansas City had any intention of prioritizing winning they would not let a mediocre SP like Lynch pitch the sixth. But they did and it's 6 nothing instead of 3 nothing.
17.1% barrel rate since June 1 2021
And that's 111 batted balls events, meaning it's very "stable" because those things are 50% stable at 50 batted balls events.
So really good evidence he has just figured out an approach for barreling baseballs.
17% barrels is like, Harper Stanton Yordan territory
Obviously he doesn't have their other characteristics be but he has always shown above average raw power
There is no reason to think that's he's NOT a 30+ homer catcher in a full season. That's incredibly rare. And he can play D!
I think he got left off some lists or ranked poorly.
He was a big name long before he signed but even at the time of signing lots were pointing out that he's not necessarily a high ceiling guy. Tools might be lacking.
I dunno!
