Ryu was a 2.5 fWAR pitcher last year. He started 31 games. If he's not on the team they are mathematically eliminated a couple of days earlier. The Ryan comp misses a bit. One good year on a five year deal is obviously worse than whatever the end result ends up being with Ryu. Even if Ryu limps to the finish with 1 WAR this year and next, he is a way better outcome than Ryan.

It's not really a depth thing. The Raptors have 7 good players, most teams are no deeper. Philadelphia is not deeper. Embiid and Maxey are going nuts right now and Toronto is banged up. Possible Toronto would be outclassed anyway because Embiid is a monster this year. I mean the 76ers have Harden playing third fiddle.... they are just better. Only way Toronto competes this series is if everyone is healthy AND a healthy FVV turns into Steph Curry for a few games. That's not gonna happen of course. I see no realistic path to them winning more than 2 games. Especially with Scotty down with a serious injury.
