Trey Yesavage Undergoes Meniscus Surgery

Blue Jays starter Trey Yesavage underwent surgery to repair the meniscus injury in his left knee, manager John Schneider tells reporters (including Mitch Bannon of The Athletic). The team is calling him week to week and has not closed the door on him returning this season.

I blew my knee out a long time ago, so maybe the medical science has advanced, but if they actually repaired his meniscus, I have a hard time seeing him back this season. A true repair usually has a much longer recovery because the meniscus has limited blood supply.

If they just trimmed the tear, a return this season is possible, but I’d still expect at least a month.

But given that he’s a young, prized pitcher, I’d expect the Jays to be extra cautious with him. Good chance he's done for the year IMO.

Middling results this year.  Obviously he came into the season with unrealistic expectations, but it wouldn't have been crazy to see him challenge for ROY.  Instead we got 94 inconsistent innings, with decent, but unremarkable results.  BABIP gods were on his side this year.  WAY too many walks, but he avoided the long ball well and the swing and miss is there.  Hope he comes back healthy and can become an anchor in the rotation moving forward.

I didn't realize his BABIP was that low this season. .215 BABIP?? I guess he was very lucky this season

Trey Yesavage’s rookie season has been upended by another injury.

The Toronto Blue Jays righty had surgery on his left knee but could return to pitch this season, the team announced Tuesday.

Manager John Schneider said Yesavage is considered week-to-week. The Blue Jays have 42 games remaining this season.

Yesavage suffered the injury during his start against the Houston Astros last Tuesday, exiting the outing in the third inning after his knee appeared to buckle while warming up. He left after throwing one test pitch and shaking his head, saying he couldn't continue.

He underwent an MRI on Thursday, which revealed the meniscus injury, then saw specialist Dr. Daniel Cooper in Texas on Monday for further evaluation.

The 23-year-old has posted a 3.65 ERA and 1.14 WHIP in 93.2 innings this season. He entered the big leagues at the end of 2025 and played a key role in helping the Blue Jays to the World Series with a 3.46 ERA in the post-season.

“Whatever the whole situation is, it’s out of my control, but the best course of action moving forward is what I’d like to achieve,” Yesavage said to Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi over the weekend. “I’d be pretty disappointed. Missed a month at the beginning of the year and it was a little rocky before the all-star break. Then just now, after the all-star break, making tweaks and just catching my stride. Surgery would suck if it comes to that. I'd like to be back out there as soon as possible.”

Yesavage missed the first month of the 2026 season as he recovered from an off-season shoulder ailment.

The Blue Jays were expected to move to a six-man rotation following the trade deadline, but with Yesavage's absence, they will likely revert to the classic five-man unit.

You could make a pretty decent rotation with the guys who have been absent/frequently absent this year :( 

Only Gausman and Cease didn't miss a bunch of time

Should probably just go ahead and bring in at least a dozen MLB caliber starting pitchers next season and assume 6 of them will be on the IL most or all of the year. Effing ridiculous
