And trying to catch a team running out Gavin Williams, Tanner Bibee, Parker Messick, Foster Griffin, and Joey Cantillo while supporting them with Jose Ramirez and Kwan/DeLatuer/Bazzana/Genao/Lowe/Adell and the pen with the second best K-BB% in MLB and the 3rd easiest remaining schedule 

Cleveland should run away with this WC3 and Toronto might be lucky to end up within 5 games of them tbh

Well we are going to be 2 back.

Unfortunately we won’t be going to the playoffs because the angels are bad.  4 days ago we were going to be going to the playoffs.  A lot has changed.  My life is ruined.  This was the only thing keeping me alive and worth living for and now it’s gone.  There is not a single thing on this earth now worth staying alive for.  My 2 week old son will grow up poor and fatherless

I follow baseball in summer because no hockey. Hopefully camp opens up soon

Yeah, that rotation and bullpen is probably the best of any of the Wild Card contenders. They’ve already won six straight and are starting to create some separation between themselves and the rest of the pack.

I also wouldn’t count Cleveland out of the division race. If the White Sox fade down the stretch and Cleveland keeps rolling the way they have, there’s a pretty realistic path for them to take the division.

Cleveland looks a lot like the 2026 Blue Jays.  Great pitching, good pen, terrible offense, struggling superstar.

Kwan's power is completely gone.  He's walking his way to a 109 wRC+.  J-Ram's power is also MIA.  Age may finally be catching up with him.  DeLauter is the only legit bat in the lineup, although it appears they bought Jo Adell at the right time, as he's been hot for them.  Adell blows goats, but he does have power and can go on a hot streak.  Bazzana's just a league average bat at this point and every other regular they have can't hit.

It's pretty sad that might be good enough to win a division and/or make the playoffs.  The state of the AL right now it seems.  Wild stuff.

Central has been dogshit for years now really. Occasionally a team pops out and wins 90 but usually it's 1 team that's good and beats up on 4 crap teams that inflates their Ws and they get blasted in the playoffs. 

That said, alot of talent is signing in the NL / signing with the Dodgers every offseason. That is also coinciding with the smaller market teams seeing the benefits of having seemingly 3 or 4 extra picks every year for the past 10 years and getting the young talent up at the same time.

Pitching wise their top 4 in the rotation have been able to stay healthy all season. Guys like Williams, Messick, Bibee, and Cantillo haven't missed any starts. They also added Foster Griffin at the trade deadline to upgrade over Cecconi. A healthy and durable rotation goes a long way over 162 games, especially when it comes to not overworking the bullpen every week. 

As for the bullpen, it's been more stable and its a bit deeper than Toronto's. They didn't have the issue like Toronto had in April with Hoffman and Little imploding. Cade Smith, Gaddis, Sabrowski, Holdermann, and Festa have all been reliable and not as overworked as Toronto's pen, which makes a difference. 

Offensively, they've been disappointing and you could even argue worse than Toronto's haha. J-Ram having a down season, Kwan was awful earlier on, and they've been running a slap-hitting infield of Rocchio, Bazzana, Martinez, Arias, and Schneemann for the most part. DeLauter has been solid when healthy (129 wRC+) and Adell was a nice addition at the deadline who could get hot and hit a bunch of HR's in bunches.

The path to the playoffs was there, and the team was executing it.

But these latest injuries might be the death blow. Losing Trey was a huge hit, but Bieber dealing again gave us some hope. Now that he’s out too, it’s getting hard to see how we pull this off.

Cease, Soriano, Bieber and two s*** starters was doable. But winning series after series with only two real starters is a much tougher ask.

You all know me. I’ll find a way to polish this turd, but you're going to have to give me a minute.

Ok you guys I guess the path forward is this:

• Get 1-2 production out of Cease and Soriano.
• We squeeze more juice out of Spaghetti almost instantly and he pitches like a #3 or 4. 
• Scherzer is showing a pulse with a 4.41 FIP in the 2nd half but he needs to be more consistent.
• Taillon comes back and pitches like a #5.
• Trey comes back in 2-3 weeks.
• Vlad snaps out of it.
• 2 or 3 of the other guys in our lineup get hot like Kirk.

Each point above is possible in its own right, but we need at least 5 or 6 of them to happen and that seems pretty tough.

So while I can't say that the playoffs will be easy to make, it is still possible.

There are many ways to win

They could also just get lucky and win a bunch of games where the other time throws the ball away etc. while Cleveland has the opposite kind of luck

Hopefully Yesavage gets back soon. And like you said, Scherzer actually wasn’t pitching that badly for a stretch. At this point, if he can just give us five innings and allow three runs each time out, I’ll take that every day of the week.

I actually like Spaghetti too, and I’m interested to see whether Pete Walker can unlock a little more out of his arm. There’s definitely some potential there.

The biggest thing is Vladdy needs to snap out of it. Then hopefully one or two other bats catch fire down the stretch - whether it’s Kirk, Lukes, Bateman, Sanchez, Okamoto, etc. We don’t need everyone hitting at once, but we desperately need a couple of those guys to get hot alongside Vladdy.

Yeah it's tough to get excited about this team even if they do make the Postseason. Anything can happen in October, but this group doesn't feel special like the 2025 group unfortunately.

If you need a way to off yourself, might I suggest watching the Angels bullpen try to cling to a lead in a game we need them to win?

My cortisol levels are approaching fatal numbers and they haven't even coughed up the lead yet.
