In a surprising move, the Blue Jays are trading right-handed reliever Tommy Nance to the Twins. ESPN's Alden Gonzalez was the first to report the trade.

According to Sportsnet's Ben Nicholson-Smith, the Blue Jays will receive catching prospect Ryan Sprock in exchange for Nance.

This news might concern Blue Jays fans with the implication that the team will be selling at the deadline. However, it's more likely that they simply got an offer that they decided was too good to pass up for a middle reliever who's out of options. If the Jays pursue bullpen upgrades later this month, there's a good chance Nance would have been out of a job anyway, and this move guarantees the Blue Jays don't lose him for nothing.

This has nothing to do with the Blur Jays selling but just making room when Fisher/Scherzer/Garcia rejoin the team.

Sprock is a catching prospect. Either they convert him to third base or management is looking at possibly trading Kirk in the off season.

Yeah. A-ball catchers is what a team wants to trigger the need to trade their starter.

Garcia arm blew up again in rehab. Almost no chance he pitches this year.

Making move for Max considering how s*** he was is certainly a decision.

Fisher is valid tho.

It's not a trigger if that's what they were thinking/planning all along. If they project BV as a starting catcher with all this control, then trading Kirk before his value plummets is smart business. Adding Sprock who looks to be a Joe Mauer type just adds to the depth that will be needed. It does appear though that this trade was to good to give up in their eyes as Ross isn't ready to sell yet, not by a long shot.

I'm excited to learn we traded Tommy Nance for future Joe Mauer.

All you woke board f***tards will be joining Spanky soon hopefully.

You come on here, make bizarre statements (based on little to no evidence), get called out for it, then get angry and call people "woke".  That's 100% what's wrong with society in a nutshell.

Nice crash out man

Oh come on man. The Blue Jays traded for an A ball catcher who has started all of 35 games at catcher in the minors since beginning a conversion last season. Trading Kirk has literally nothing to do with this situation with a player who is so far away from reaching the majors if he even makes it in the first place. You're apparently as confused about wokeism as you are about baseball if you think the board being woke has anything to do with calling you out over a foolish post.

Yeah.  Wokeism is like being very progressive, perhaps to the extreme, and 'calling out' is like 'you moron that is dumb'.

The same logic here has to be used as when Bieber took his option.  IE If it looks too good to be true there is more to the story.

The guys stats look awesome with a great k/bb ratio.  He is only 21 years old.  However he only now has been moved to A+ ball.  Often a guy who can catch and control the strike zone is really valuable.  Stats-scouting he does look Joe-Maurish lite and looks way better then Valenzuela at the same age.

You don't get a player that good for Tommy Nance though, so the scouting reports on defense, bat speed and such must not be great.

With play of Valenzuela could move Kirk
