The Jays have 4 relievers that are in the top 7 in appearances for all MLB relievers. Either JS needs to start scaling back his RP usage (some of that not his fault due to SP injuries) or he needs to let starters go deeper than he feels comfortable sometimes. This is one of those games where the latter made more sense, not because of how Yesavage looked, but how the pen has been used lately. If Varland needs to get 4 outs in June against a hapless Red Sox team, then it's a deeper issue. Ultimately it comes down to the offense doing their 2023 tribute. That season was legitimately one of the most painful "good" seasons the Jays have ever had mainly because scoring 3 runs in a game was their version of busting out. This season has resembled that one way too much offensively (unfortunately it hasn't matched 2023's lack of SP injuries).

I'm no f***ing manager but the writing was on the wall last inning.

But you are not a mall Santa wearing a tight hoody.

His options were Nance or Yesavage. I'm not sure he's totally comfortable with either one of those options but given the pitch count, he took a chance with Yesavage. I don't blame him. He's short of a lot of horses today.

This is a great reminder of what can happen when you "ride your starter".  There's a reason the statistics suggest going to the pen earlier than a lot of people are comfortable with.

As I said yesterday, if Schneider wasn't managing the pen the way he has, and wasn't riding our leverage guys so much, there's a good chance we're 5-7 games below .500 and I doubt anyone wants that.

The offense REALLY needs to pick it the f*ck up.  They are killing the pen.

Not sure if you're watching, but he was toast last inning.  A fresh arm was needed.

He needs healthy starters more than aything. How lomg were they basically bullpenning 2 out of every 5 starts because only 2 starters were healthy and the other was Lauer?

I understand keeping Trey in they needed himto eat up some inning when the pen in this depleted

He ate 7 of them. That had to be enough.

I'm very well aware that's why I say he had no good options. Nance hasn't looked great since coming back. If he comes in instead and gives up the lead people are ripping Schneider for that instead. He didn't have a good option. Yesavage still had a good pitch count and has better stuff, he went with it and it didn't work. Oh well.

Third time through and he didn't even have his splitter today

But IKF and Durbin took him deep lol that's just stupid

Classic 2026 Blue Jays. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

I'm glad Gimenez is okay, but I'd really like to see McAdoo get more playing time. When we're struggling to score runs, we really need more production.

IKF haunts the Jays even after the WS.
