It is one thing to have Hoffman out there but another to not even be ready to have someone in after seeing how the first 3 batters went.

That is my main complaint as well. Hoffman had been pitching quite well recently including some 9th inning appearances. Varland took the tougher matchup in the 8th inning so unless Hoffman was used in the 7th and Rogers in the 9th Hoffman needed to be used somewhere in this game.

Right? He should have been on a short leash and taken out after he went HBP, triple, double, single, but JS just sat there and watched him walk 2 guys after that.

The exact sequence was:

K, HBP, Triple, Single, Double, Walk and then another Walk.

There is no excuse to have Hoffman faced 7 batters.  None at all.

I was fine with Hoffman in the ninth. The guy has been nails. Even in the 9th recently. Struck out the first guy and broke him. It just suddenly came apart out of nowhere.

Even when he started the struggle, you have a better chance of him finding his stuff before Seabold saving your ass 😂

Oh well, they deserved to win one of the last two games so fair enough. Try to win the series tomorrow.

Hoffman cannot be relied upon in the 9th.  He can do it, but can't be trusted.

The only thing I would have done differently is had Hoffman in the eighth so at least you have Varland to back him up. Going in reverse order left you with no good option.

I honestly don't understand the thinking around Hoffman at this point. Believing in your players and giving them a chance to succeed is a good quality in a leader. But it's so far gone now for Hoffman. His mental game is clearly not there. I don't get why he's being put out there in anything remotely close to high leverage.

Yesavage's game today vs Hoffman's is a good example, imo. Yesavage clearly didn't have his command. He had luck on his side, yes. But he stays calm and battles through adversity. Hoffman just seems to crumble at the slightest sign of any adversity.

Time to start looking for a backup team to support because I don’t know if we winning it all.  Thinking Oakland or the Indians

Oakland. U gotta love that Big Amish.

Hoffman should of been pulled after it was made 5-3, problem is we didn't have anyone good to bring in, since Varland and Rogers had already pitched. That loss hurts!

Did you intentionally pick two teams that don't technically exist anymore to be ironical?

Unfortunately Hoffman can only be used in blowouts. Can’t trust this dude at all.

Even in blowouts, you cannot trust him in the 9th. If you meant the blowouts that we are losing, then I get it.

The sad thing is we would've won this game 5-1 if Hoffman pitched in the 8th and Varland in the 9th.

For some reason, Hoffman cannot pitch in the 9th the way he pitches in the 7th/8th.

The problem is our idiot manager puts Hoffman on the same level as Rogers and Varland thinking all 3 are interchangeable.  You keep guys like Rogers/Varland to put out fires from scrubs like Hoffman.

Hoffman 100% needed to pitch the 7th when it was 8/9/1.  Or even the 8th inning because you had a 3 run lead so you can bring in Varland if he chokes.

Keeping Hoffman gives you no other outs and there was a reason he was pulled as a closer.  0 excuse for continuing this stupid blind trust in a player who has not earned it.

This will be a loss we remember in September

And it won't be the last. If the game from Seattle series didn't make him learn, nothing will lmao

Hoffman all sorts of records for the Jays.  None of them are good and yet our manager is CHOOSING to use this scrub in high leverage.
