Don’t kid yourself

That's a pretty big "IF" at this point.

Certainly can't count on it, but the Jays would obviously have a lot more information to work with.

The Jays, along with most every other team in baseball this year, needed a right handed bat who can play OF.

Seems like Taters is a pretty good fit for that role right? I'd mark him down as a short side platoon player entering the year. His health and performance can dictate his playing time from there.

Lowe and Suzuki would give the Jays serious power throughout the line up, especially if Barger and Santander come back healthy and Vlad bounces back like he did last time he had a 1 WAR season.

Would be six guys with 30+ homerun power (5 who have actually done it).

Plus guys like Keys and McAdoo kicking around too.

I think Santander will receive an opportunity for nearly everyday playing time if he's sufficiently healthy but he'll have to prove he deserves to keep it through performance.

I would take Arraez at that price easily. And I hate to say it, but I'd hold my nose and sign  Jazz on that small of a deal as well.

I'm more convinced that Chisolm would provide value vs Arraez on those deals. At the end of the day I'd prefer to see Chisolm added given the speed/power potential he possesses and I expect his defensive value to be more durable as well.

Imagine adding Morejon to the Jays bullpen.

I suspect he's going to get a big bag of money.  His velo jumped 2.5 MPH this year (up to 99.1) and the Padres abused him for 86 innings this year.  I know everyone is a risk for arm injuries, but he seems like a prime candidate.

I'd like to know what drugs that Spotrac is on.

Jazz: 4.1, 4.3, 3.5 WAR, entering age 29 season - 2 years $35M

Torres: 1.7, 2.5, 1.0 WAR, entering age 30 season - 3 years $55M

Yeah OK,,,pass the crack

At that contract, I'd go for Jazz Chisholm without hesitating.

Everyone in baseball would.  That's why it's so laughable.

The only explanation is that Jazz is SUCH a douchebag, that teams would have to get him at a massive discount.

There was a post on MLBTR the other day saying the Yankees are considering not qualifying Jazz. Which seems crazy. He must be a massive nuisance.

I really, really hate the idea of Jazz in a Jays uniform, but I'm starting to think we should just bite the bullet and sign him.

My guess is he'll become a whole lot more palatable the first time we play the Yankees and he starts talking crap to those a$$holes.

Yeah don't understand the Torres contract haha.

Jazz I think likely gets a one-year deal maybe with some options attached, or an opt out. Think he gets at least $25-30M AAV on a one-year deal from someone.

Seems like a head case, but even in one of his worst offensive seasons statistically, he still put up a 3.5 WAR season. Also, could play some OF as well when not playing 2B, so that means you can even get Clement in the lineup at times.

You can’t go into 2027 relying on Santander to be healthy. If his presence somehow prevents the front office from adding another bat, I’d be pretty disappointed, although I really don’t see that happening.

If he is healthy, like I said before, the Jays will find ways to get him into the lineup through lineup shuffling, platoons, pinch-hitting and, inevitably, injuries elsewhere.

But heading into 2027, Santander should be viewed on the depth chart as a bench bat, not someone occupying a guaranteed starting spot. If he stays healthy, he’ll still find his way into 300–400 ABs, maybe even more, without the Jays needing to plan the lineup around him.

Let's hope we have the resources and the appeal to FA's to make this happen.  We have a lot of question marks and who knows if Ownership will continue to spend foolishly.

I do wonder how Chisolm's teammates view him. To me he just comes across as being overconfident and would be more annoying than an actual disruption to a clubhouse but that's just a guess. There is some risk of this acquisition as the team has likely lost a huge part of the clubhouse leadership in guys like Springer/Straw/Gausman/Scherzer etc. and I don't know who else would be able to step in to fill the void if Chisolm does end up causing waves.

I see no indication that Rogers intends to pull back on the spending. Mark Shapiro did state that he expects the payroll budget to be similar next season and the club didn't end up spending their entire budget as they were involved in big budget plays such as Kyle Tucker.

Jazz comes off as more of a Stroman type to me (overconfident, ego, sees himself as a “brand”, etc) rather than someone who is a clubhouse cancer. Impossible to know for sure but he’d be one guy in a clubhouse that is otherwise fairly reserved (by design). Might be worth a shot if the contract is short. The 2026 Jays had a lot of vetrin presents and still sucked. They need to prioritize talent at this point. Whether Jazz is the right guy depends on what the other options are.

With that said, I don’t expect this FO to go after him for the reasons above (ego, etc). I really don’t like the other options long term (Lowe, Arraez), and Jazz seems like a potential 1+1 option, which is far more appealing, but let’s see what their plan is.
