Says the biggest cuck on this board, and that's saying something.

I'm shocked this struck such a nerve gruber.  You OK?

What's the probability that Springer is a solid DH again next year?  Say a 120 wRC+ year with 20+ HRs and 80+ RBIs

Is it 40%+?

I’d say his true talent right now is around 120 wRC+, despite the slower start. Factor in one more offseason at his age and it’s more likely he’s in the 105-115 range next season realistically. He probably can be a very good contributor against lefties still, but there’s some mileage on those legs and entering the season at 37 it’s more likely than not that it starts to catch up.

I’d maybe optimistically say 120 wRC+ next season is more like 20% likely.

Springer gives off retirement vibes to me.  Wouldn't be surprised to see him hang them up after the contract ends.

But you have to think Santander is finally healthy to start 2027 don't you?  I love George but don't want both on the roster if he is.

Hitting coach when they fire Popkins

When does that happen?  He's currently coaching the biggest offensive collapse in ML history.  How many offenses go from 1st to worst?

As much as I love Springer, you’re right they can’t afford to clog up the DH spot again. Springer essentially is a full-time DH, and if he’s not hitting, there just isn’t enough value there to justify it.

They’d be better off keeping that DH spot flexible so they can rotate guys through when they need a break from the field, or use it on a player who can still give you some defensive value and play a position 30–40 times a year. And like you said, if Santander is finally healthy, he probably ends up occupying a lot of those DH at-bats anyway.

Santander owes us about 50 home runs

It's illogical to re-sign Springer at this point in his career. Some team like the Angels will sign him.

Yeah - I tend to agree.  The only way I see him re-signing is if they Jays take Santander out behind the shed.  I'm just curious who thinks he's still got some juice in that bat.  If he continues his career, I suspect he'll look for a spot where he's the primary DH.

Tough being a near replacement level bat taking up a DH spot on any line up in the majors though.  If he goes on a  mini tear to the end the year it'd go a long way for him.  I can actually see that happening if others start contributing, he thrives on success and pressure and playing for something.

Looking under the hood and he might actually be an okay pickup though.

Elite K and BB rates as Laika mentioned, and he's got great numbers against righties and horrible numbers against lefties. He's fastball/sweeper only which explains why.

The idiot D-Bags were using him as their permanent 9th inning fixture for most of the year though when he's begging to be used situationally against right handed bats. The Jays usage alone will help improve his numbers.

Giving a struggling vetrin with closer experience to JS is terrifying. He'll get the high leverage spots regardless of performance. Hopefully they can fix him for 2 months.

Miles Mikolas was DFA'd by the Nats. We're going to pick him up aren't we

Pete Walker can work his magic on him.

As terrifying as watching Chase Lee, Little and Waldron pitch in leverage situations?  I think not.  Who ever thought we'd miss Joe Mantiply and Tommy Nance?

Wild times in Jays land.

It's Jeff Hoffman that I miss.

Maybe he can largely shelve the fastball and spam sweepers 80% of the time.

Use him situationally sure, but he cant keep the ball in the yard.

Schneids just needs to be smart and use him only in situations where an onslaught of solo homers won't kill us too bad.

No longer being blocked by Pete Crow-Armstrong (and being the exact same age - literally born the same month)

He can't be sad he was traded

Idiot usage is the correct term.

He's faced 95 lefty batters and just 68 righties this season. I get that teams pinch-hit but surely they could have been much smarter about his matchups.

I legitimately think he's a prime candidate to push the limits on sweeper usage. I did a quick check and there are relievers throwing sliders/sweepers 60-70% of the time. Sewald has a really hard time keeping the ball in the park with the 4 seamer being the primary culprit and paring back the usage is worth a shot.

That's insane lol

Lefties have a .405 wOBA against him this year compared to just .251 against righties. (.329/.270 split for his career.)
