Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted November 5, 2025 Posted November 5, 2025 I am shocked he did this. He will be a stud next year with more recovery time from Tommy john. Are the Jays also able to qualify him next year? I know we weren't able to do so this year.
BTS Community Moderator Posted November 5, 2025 Posted November 5, 2025 This is f***ing great news. I thought there was no chance. Waylanderz and Governator 2

glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 5, 2025 Posted November 5, 2025 Wow that’s amazing, and surprising. A 1/16 deal for someone with his upside is a no brainer. Great news. Waylanderz 1

SeranthonySantander Verified Member Posted November 5, 2025 Posted November 5, 2025 When you are already rich, why risk being unhappy over a few more million when he knows what it's like here. Nice to see it's not always about money.

Yeah they have months to try to work out an extension too. I suspect they'll make a real push for one. But even if they don't, his caliber for 1/16 and the ability to give him a QO next year is beyond great.

Great news. Considering we got Max last off-season for $15,5 to be the 5th starter. It's crazy to get Shane Bieber for 500k more the next off-season. Jays24 1
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 5, 2025 Author Posted November 5, 2025 Bieber for 16 and Greene off the books is great financially Spanky__99 1
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted November 5, 2025 Posted November 5, 2025 Wow I was wrong, I thought a one year pillow deal (if he chose that route) would still easily exceed 20M Spanky__99 1
BTS Community Moderator Posted November 5, 2025 Posted November 5, 2025 Between this, Flaherty opting in, and the Cubs cutting Imanaga - signs of a soft FA market? Spanky__99 1

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted November 5, 2025 Posted November 5, 2025 This is truly incredible news. I have to think we're really doing something right in the clubhouse, facilities, leadership, coaching department for something like this to happen. What an amazing start to the offseason. harvey16 Verified Member Posted November 5, 2025 Posted November 5, 2025 This is a hometown discount if I've ever seen one! He could of easily gotten a multi-year deal with a higher AAV on the open market had he opted out. This proves he really wants to stay here. Hopefully we can get a team friendly deal worked out with Bichette now! I suspect Bichette will not be so generous though, I'm thinking min 8yr/$250M for him to stay. Say what you want about how the season ended, it was heartbreaking, but I think the impact it had on the organization (at least short term) is going to be nothing but positive if this is any indication. As long as Bieber is healthy, there was no reason for him to take this option from a financial standpoint. He clearly wanted to stay. Spanky__99 1

Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted November 5, 2025 Posted November 5, 2025 We really needed news like this. Ive been trying to avoid Jays talk since Game 7 but stuff like this can slowly help me heal lol. SuperFuzzBigMuff, Omar, Waylanderz and 3 others 6
BuffaloJays Verified Member Posted November 5, 2025 Posted November 5, 2025 Is there any reason to worry that he did this because he’s -not- fully healthy? justafan 1

It doesn't matter, even if he was hurt, he would be allowed to take that option. If he was hurt, he wouldn't make himself available game 7. I think he has admitted he doesn't always have his best stuff from start to start as he's still not fully recovered. There would have been no need for him to hide anything L54 1
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted November 5, 2025 Posted November 5, 2025 He sure seemed to like it with the Jays, thought an extension might happen but no way did I think he'd take his option.. Awesome news. More payroll flexibility for a team that might be spending huge money anyways. Spanky__99 and BatFlip 2
Funky Verified Member Posted November 5, 2025 Posted November 5, 2025 Considering he would’ve had a $4 million buyout, he would’ve only needed to make $12 million a year to match. Dirt cheap BatFlip and Spanky__99 2
