I think the Jays have enough to make a reasonable offer for Marte but I don't think they want a reasonable offer, they want to be blown away. Also I believe I read that they mostly want pitching back for him.

I don't think many would trade Yesavage for him, straight up. And they'd probably ask for Yesavage ++

No man, hang up the phone.

Ya sounds like they want major league ready pitching coming back and the Jays don’t have it besides Yesavage which is probably where the diamondbacks would start the convo. The two teams dont seem to line up very well

I think the Jays have enough to get Marte. Joey Loperfido, Arjun Nimmala, Gage Stanifer, Jo Jo Parker, Ricky Tiedeman, and RJ Schreck. I'd call that a pretty decent list.

We aren't deep enough to give up what it will take to get Marte, not to mention they'd probably want ML ready talent like Barger.

I'd rather just spend money and keep the prospects.

BJMB legend Josh Winckowski returns to the Jays!

2 year minor league deal, same as that other dude they just picked up, Enright. Same reason too as Wincky just had internal brace surgery so will be out all of 2026

Yeah and the Jays best prospects are also teenagers for the most part, so that combined with the D-Backs wanting MLB ready pitching makes the two teams a bad trade fit. Boston is a great trade fit, which is not good for the Jays.

If there’s a scenario where the Jays miss out on all of Tucker, Bo, Bregman, and Bellinger, then I wonder what their pivot would be. Probably the non-Marte trade market. Hopefully we start to see some action soon. The lockout next winter will probably feel like a regular MLB off season if the activity the last 2 months is any indication.

From what Hazen was saying it sounds like his price is outrageous, and he likely won't even move him. Hard pass, we don't match if he wants a Barger or Yesavage.

Okamoto has a much more "Blue Jays" offensive profile than Murakami. I could at least see the Jays having interest here, versus no chance they even considered Murakami with that much swing and miss.

The timing of the international guys makes the MLB offseason so interesting.

Like, ideally Toronto would wait until they know their big fish before potentially signing Okamoto. If Bo is the big fish and sliding in at 2B then the infield is crowded.

But Okamoto's deadline is NOW so you need to decide on the little fish first.

Murakami and Amai signed for so damn cheap that if Okamoto follows suit the Jays could sign him at a price that wouldn't prevent them from also signing Tucker and/or Bo.

I assume Okamoto wants some sort of guarantees about playing time. But if the Jays like him and he's cheap they will sign him and figure out the rest later.

How would that even work if they signed all 3?  Feels like they'd need to start trading players if they went that direction.  I kind of wish they hadn't signed Santander last year.

I highly doubt they sign all 3 but look at it this way. If they love Okamoto and can get him for 3/35M but they think he's more of a 4/72M player, do they really give a crap if they trade Taters and have to eat half his contract at that point? They'd still be coming out ahead on the total cost of Okamoto's contract.

Feel like they’d be more likely to sell high on someone like Barger, Lukes, etc. over Tony Taters. Selling low/salary dump hasn’t really been the MO.

I would super stoked to not see Santander in a Blue Jays uniform regardless of the scenario so sign me up for whatever gives us that result. I don't look at it as selling low. It's getting out before he wastes 300 at-bats and realize other options are better.

Better fire Santander into the sun then. I still tend to think that a healthy Santander can be a highly productive member of the Blue and it's foolish to think that a single season ruined by injury completely erases a player's value. At the end of the day Santander is essentially being paid like a 2 win player and a switch hitting power bat easily fits into the lineup.

Is it even selling high on Barger? It's entirely possible he's just touching the surface of his overall potential and he has a chance to blossom into a cost controlled star once he's fully developed.

I mean hes projected for 1 WAR by Steamer. Almost every single one of our players that can play the positions he plays is projected higher outside of Myles Straw. And they haven't even added any hitters this off-season.

Do you honestly buy the 1 WAR projection? The guy was healthy for basically 5 weeks of the entire season as his shoulder wasn't full strength once he came back into the lineup.

I would love to think he can out perform that but it really all comes down to his power because he doesn't bring anything else to the table. If gets off to a slow start again or struggles with injuries it will be hard to justify playing him over the guys who got it done last year in his absence.

And if for example they sign Tucker and Okamoto I don't even know where he is going to play. That's a RF and 1B/LF. I doubt they want to play Okamoto at Third and if they do that moves Barger into the OF because he's going to play every day. So the Jays will have some decisions to make.

I don't think having Santander will prevent them from making those moves.

I don't believe the front office will add two full time players to the roster at this point as simply adding a single bat would create a stacked team. Adding Tucker certainly complicates the fit for Santander although maybe only for a single season as Springer's deal is up after 2026.

And what’s your boy Imai projected for huh?

Projections are notoriously unreliable when accounting for injuries.

You're right Steamer wasn't very bullish on him. I think he can put up Dylan Cease 2025 numbers in his rookie year.

Ultimately projections aren't everything but considering how one dimensional Santander is I don't think his projection is unfair. I think most people here would be thrilled if he hit 26-30 Homeruns.

That’s pretty much what we signed him for. 30 HR switch hitters don’t exactly grow on trees. Sure he’s a corner OF with meh defense, but he’s basically Teoscar Hernandez. And Teo is an everyday player for the back to back champs.

Yeah agreed. It kind of was the same with Berrios. Jays still went out and signed Ponce.

I think if Tucker and Bo are both available, Santander won't stop the Jays from signing both.
