This - 100%.  They weren't going to be beat on a shallow liner.  They wanted to make Ernie beat them deep, which he almost did.

Just 1 degree too much launch angle. Ugh

Yeah the Clement drive would frequently be caught *IF* the outfielders were in usual position.

But they were playing WAY in and Pages had to literally run over his LF to catch it. It so easily could have been missed but he got it.

After the play when Kike hernandez was lying face down forever... that's why he was. He assumed the play wasn't made and the game was over and they'd just lost the WS.

I was rooting for the Jays. Could not believe how Game 7 finished. When Bo hit the 3 run homer, I knew that wasn't enough and kept saying how the Jays need to get a couple more runs. It was a 1 run game.

Just have a question. Jays easily and should have won Game 3. Why didn't Schneider walk Shoray Otomi in what the 7th inning I think? He started walking him after he hit the 1 run homer to tie it. But if he started walking him 1 inning sooner, Jays likely win that game.

A few days later and it isn’t getting any better. It’s really sinking in that all of the awesome memories of this playoff run are null and void because of how that game 7 went. That’s where our minds will always end up when thinking about beating the Yankees or Springer’s heroics or Vlad’s insane numbers. As it turns out, Dodgers in 4 or 5 like everyone expected would have been so much less painful.

It shouldn't be like that but it is. I know I'm supposed to be able to still enjoy the moment because of how unexpectedly great the season was but it's hard. Like you said, it's hard to watch the great moments of the playoffs now, knowing how it ends. Flying home to Portland last night from Toronto, I looked at my son and told him that if Toronto makes it to the World Series again, we are gonna open ourselves up to feeling this way again, but we are still gonna do it!! All I know is that things were set up so perfectly to celebrate with my kids and experience one of the most joyous occasions that we could possibly experience in our lives together, but it was just not meant to be. I'm glad we made the trip and it was time and money well spent, but the could haves and should haves are gonna haunt me for a while.

Here’s a better, less damning angle of the IKF leadoff. He’s actually the same distance as Muncy.

He should be where the third base coach is and getting a walking lead down the like. He was very flat footed on contact. Still Varsho needs to hit a fly ball in that situation.

I am still sad. This was the worst sports fandom loss in my life. Doubt it gets topped. Not likely Toronto gets back to the WS any time soon but hopefully they can retain their FO and keep the team competitive. You never know.

That is a way better angle for sure. The other angles make it look like he's a foot off the bag lol.

Even so, his lead still sucked and his jump was bad and his slide was awful.

Opens himself up to a DP on a liner back to the pitcher or to 2B though. I get what they were doing here.

Jeez, some of you guys should just call a suicide hotline already.

It's not the end of the world, this team contributed to record postseason viewership and have put themselves on the map as a top-tier organization. We're in a better position now going forward than we've ever been in decades.

I’m as optimistic as anyone here, but this loss is absolutely soul-crushing.

You always dream about a run like this, and we finally got it, but somehow it still didn’t end in a World Series win. There were probably 20 different plays across the 3 close losses where, if even one of them goes our way (and several should have), we’re the ones celebrating. Just an awful mix of bad luck and self-inflicted mistakes.

I agree the franchise is in a much better place now, and with the new playoff format, we won’t be waiting two-plus decades for another postseason appearance. That definitely helps.

But there’s no guarantee we get back here. The AL is a gauntlet, and it’s not like we’re some inevitable superteam built for repeat runs.

And even if we do make it back and finally win it all, wouldn’t it have been even better to have two World Series titles instead of just one?

Honestly, this is one of the worst moments of my life. It feels like someone close to me died. I tried posting in the Offseason Thread, but it just made me feel worse.

The only way I can cope right now is to shelve it as “just sports,” ultimately it's something that doesn’t matter. And frankly that’s the saddest part, because baseball is such a big part of my life. This friggin' sucks.

The statistical improbability of losing game 7, game 6, and the 18 inning game, the way that it happened, with those specific events happening, is staggering.

So staggering that I now believe in a higher power. I am no longer an Atheist.

God exists and he hates the Blue Jays.

Was he on vacation in 92 and 93?

Would Magic Johnson please shut the hell up. After reading some of his World Series tweets it's clear he knows nothing about the game of baseball and it would mean little to him one way or the other if the Dodgers actually won or not.

I would say something about him but I don't want to embarrass Brock in front of all the new posters we are getting so I will leave it at that.

I have just been informed that due to this most recent post, your Team Spanky membership is under review.

You will of course be allowed to advocate for yourself if some extreme circumstance has taken place; ie. Perhaps your account was hacked by Masterbather?

You will be advised of the committees final decision before spring training commences.

Enjoy your off-season.......traitor!

We all know what we all want to say about Magic

It’s funny because yea it’s just sports, none of it matters.  But also, you will die one day so technically life doesn’t matters.

We find things that give life meaning even though it’s all arbitrarily meaningless in the end.

So it’s kind of like religion, you put a lot of belief into something that seems ridiculous to other people but that’s what keep you going.  It also builds character to suffer.

There is always an empty feeling after a season ends either way, it’s just magnified a bit.  Baseball is my main focus 2/3 the year also so you can’t really fill that void easily.  It does feel like my first breakup even though I only dated her one year, like the baseball season.

You don’t think it will get better but in a couple months you will have forgotten all the bad feelings and be ready to be hurt again

Just going to mention that I post elsewhere with a number of neutral baseball fans (who wanted the Jays to win because f*ck the Dodgers) and they were all saying JS was a complete idiot in that game and at other points in the series. He was outmanaged by Dave Roberts at key points.

Term - you were the leader of team positive and your optimism was remarkably consistent and needed throughout this incredible season.  You deserved this one as much as any fan I know.

I fell off the positivity train a few (several?) times throughout the season after embarrassingly asking to be woken up in 2029 when this team is good again (preseason).

This team was by far the most fun sports team I've ever followed - even if they came up short.  Thanks for everything you do around here.  I appreciate it.

What did Schneider do that was so idiotic?

Thank you Brownie. I had plans to hang myself tonight as I can't stomach this loss any longer but maybe I'll rethink things.

He is where the 3rd base coach is man.  He's probably further to be honest.

I don't know, but he may have been told to avoid a secondary lead as that added momentum increases the likelihood of a false step home on a line drive.  Who knows.

It was mainly Game 3, the things that drew the most ire were pitching to Ohtani too many times, misusing Dominguez, and subbing out Barger for basically no benefit.

There was some other stuff about use of relievers/subs in other games, but that was probably more 20/20 hindsight.

True.  Though as a counterargument Betts and Rojas are so far away from 2B that he realistically could creep a little more and still not risk getting doubled up.  If Freeman or Muncy catch a line drive they need someone to throw it to.

I suspect all infielders would have looked to throw to 3rd, knowing the other 2 runners wouldn't be getting big leads (they mean nothing).

They'd be looking for a false step, or a slip.

Yeah I don't think these guys know what they are talking about tbh.

We walked Ohtani a million times in Game 3 and basically shut him down the other games. Everyone loves treating him like he's Babe Ruth but he's a 180 wRC+ bat right now. He's human and you can get him out and outside of Game 3 the Jays did so.

Everyone loves s***ing on the manager. The Barger pinch run was probably the most egregious thing he did. Everything else was fine.
