Blue Jays-Dodgers World Series Game 6 Thread: Kevin Gausman vs Yoshinobu Yamamoto

Soo apparently Kike revealed after the game that he lost the ball in the lights. He was only running in because he heard the bat break.

Well, essentially that's two games so far the Dodgers have won with a combination of bad plays by the Jays (managerial and/or player-made) coupled with terribly bad luck. Have to think with the resiliency of the team this year that they will find a way in game 7. Luck will be back on our side and I fully expect to not let the Dodgers take 3/4 games at Rogers Centre. Just need to keep the faith!

I was really surprised that he caught that ball as I was certain it was a base hit.

Probably shouldnt make a drastic change but I would have the lineup:

1. Springer

2. Bo

3. Vlad

4. Kirk

5. Barger

6. Varsho

7. Clement

8. Gimenez

9. Lukes

They should give us fans more control over the games.  I definitely would have put some better swings and added some better base running if they gave us that option.  
 

Anyway I won’t be upset with a loss considering it’s basically a coin flip despite what fangraphs says.

i hope if the dodgers do win, that after next year they set the salary cap to 255m

If you were given a game 7 at the start of the series, everyone would have taken it. We have played better than them and that’s why I am confident of our chances to win it. Baseball is funny though and stuff happens. I have said this multiple times and will repeat again - I love this team and no matter the outcome I will celebrate their achievements. Also it’s been a blast hanging out with you guys during games!  I have trying my best to calm down my son who was the game last night and will be there for game 7. Let’s just enjoy this game, play Blue Jays baseball and win!

That's a lot of left handed bats at the bottom of the lineup and would make it easy for Roberts to deploy the 4 lefty relievers in his pen.

A gut wrenching loss as they had multiple opportunities to win the game, and a terrible final play! But the Jays have been the better team the whole series and this series has been an instant classic (Jays fan bias aside). They are a resilient team and I’m (cautiously…32 years of bad memories don’t go away overnight!) optimistic they will win game 7.
 

As a long suffering Jays fan I need to remember win or lose tonight, these types of games are why we cheer for them and I’m thankful to be enjoying them. Go Jays!!!

You guys went pretty heavy with the gaslighting over the intentional walk, especially considering it was indeed the wrong decision in hindsight.

I was with a whole room of people who weren't pleased with that decision. Bill James also did an analysis years ago showing that it is almost always the wrong move. Gausman was really cruising and I think that ruined his rhythm. Hopefully JS can learn from the mistake.

Hey there Grant, I see you wasted little time in making a new account. There was no gaslighting. You had a complete meltdown and literally said that the intentional walk cost the Blue Jays the world series and was the worst managerial decision in team history. The Dodgers still would have scored 2 runs without the extra base runner and won the game 2-1 instead of 3-1. The intentional walk didn't cause Gausman to allow 3 hard hit balls in the inning, and those hard hit balls are the reason the Dodgers scored.

Yea it's about 0.25 runs given up doing an IBB on average. The Jays are way too cute with the IBBs. The other intangible reason I don't like it is that having runners on adds psychological pressure

Ohtani had 700 PA on the season. 500 TB (including walks) is still less than giving him 700 walks. The only player that approached being worth the IBB was prime Bonds and he had a much worse lineup than the Dodgers this year

It's been estimated a player that walks every time would be worth ~20 WAR in a full season

I know this sounds like a crazy idea, but damn I wouldn't mind the Jays bringing Chris Bassitt as a reliever next season. He's been lights out and has looked so comfortable out of the bullpen in leverage spots. I was saying this to myself during the Mariners series. 

Relievers are signing for multi-year contracts of around $12M-15M AAV anyways. Sign Bassitt for a one-year at that amount with bonuses (e.g. # of holds, saves, K's, innings, etc.). You can use him in so many different roles out of the pen.

Didn't look like it off the bat but Ohtani's pop fly double off Fluharty was hit at 100.6 MPH with a 28 degree launch angle. Absolute freak of nature.

What makes this more frustrating is that we saw two plays in a span of 4 games that were so inexcusable and they ended up either costing the team the win or costing the team the chance to potentially win; the Bo pick off in Game 3 and the Barger play at 2B last night. I see people on social media blaming umpiring or the ball being wedged in the OF for those losses...... but literally all Bo had to do was stand near the bag to wait for the call, and all Barger had to do was not be half way to 3B on a shallow drive to LF. Completely avoidable mistakes that ended up having major consequences. It's one thing to lose because the other team executed better but I don't think that's been the case here. The Jays probably should have already won this series based on how it's been played, but now it's a coin flip Game 7 where the pitching matchups tilt in the Dodgers favor (on paper). The Jays have come back from this type of adversity all season. Hopefully they have one more come back win in them.

I got a handful of other potential asterisks ready, including that Varsho call in game 3.  But I would prefer to not have to use them.

Its debatable, thats for sure. But not really a mistake either way.

Barger getting doubled off is a major mistake.

He’s very easy to get out if you just pitch him down in the zone. Jays and every other team in the league are dumb for not doing this
