Yeah a Jays loss + Yankees win tonight probably gives the Yankees the best odds of winning the division.

I think we'd STILL have the best odds. The tiebreaker with only 4 games left is a huge deal and the schedules start to even up.

Our series against TBR is probably easier than NYY against Baltimore. Fried and Rodon won't be starting against the Orioles but Rogers and Bradish will.

But it's obviously best to just take care of business tonight and if we do the Yanks are put in a fairly tough spot. Gaining 2 games on us with only 4 to go won't be easy.

Jays management seems to think adding Santandar to the lineup is going to disrupt the flow of a team who has scored 1 or fewer runs in the past 5 of 6 games.

Have you seen us play against the Rays though? they are pests. f***ed us in 2021 by blowing that game vs the Yankees and i bet they will fk us again this weekend.

To make it 5-1 Redsox lol

Whatever Scherzer has been doing to warm up, scrap it.  Or simulate a first inning before going on the mound lol.

The demons in my mind already have them going 0-5 and then bounced 0-2 in wildcard.  f*** the pessimistic brain sucks sometimes.

Its so hard to be optimistic, and try to defend this team to family/friends, and be disappointed every time. Just makes me look like an idiot.

Agreed

I talk about them all year but the only time my wife actually watches games is when I strongly suggest/borderline insist on it during the post season...  So the bias of them being chokers appears VERY strong to her from the last 5 years.  LOL

That’s not necessarily an unfair assessment. They’ve done nothing to show they are a serious competitor in the last 5 years. They make the playoffs sure, but they seem to roll over. Every. Damn. Time.

Like of course its better than the alternative of NOT making the playoffs, but at the end of the day is it really any different for us fans if they get bounced in the first round vs if they didn’t make it at all?

Wouldn't Bo type of injury be nothing for hockey? can he not just put on pain killer lotion and DH?

Obviously not

Tony is back finally.

IKF with a 39 wRC+ against LHP this season (71 last season) in the lineup against an elite LHP is John Schneider in a nutshell.

RHB vs LHH is good herp derp

I am scared shitless to see this team face a lefty and see IKF start over Barger...

At least we will have good options off the bench... so long as we can get Crochet out early enough for it to matter

They need to use the Cam Schlittler gameplan. Go up there trying to foul off a bunch of pitches, prolong ABs, drive up the pitch count, and hope you get some BABIP luck, while getting into the bullpen early. Much easier said than done and Crochet is much more experienced + better (while only being 2 years older lol).

Stupid comment

IKF career against LHP: 77 wRC+, 14% K rate

Barger: 55 wRC+, 34% K rate

Both are trash but IKF will at least make contact more often and hope to get a few bloop hits while providing better defense, and leaves Barger to be used as a pinch hitter late in the game. It's a marginal upgrade but the numbers say it's what you should be going for.

Pretty sure Barger struggles against velocity as well, and that's gonna be magnified by velocity coming from a lefty. IKF over Barger is the right call for this one, like it or not.

That's how John Schneider's brain works unfortunately, but to be fair to him he doesn't deserve all the blame there. The Jays could have added a RHB who can mash LHP (ex. Miguel Andujar) for nothing at the deadline, but chose a RHB that can't hit either side but is great defensively at 1B. Their idea of IF depth was IKF, who bats RH but is one of the worst hitters in MLB against LHP so he has no value at the plate. Then there's Straw who has done WAY better than anyone could have hoped for but there's no way he should be starting against Crochet in a game like this. Even if JS knew how to put a lineup together based on platoon splits, he doesn't have the personnel to pull it off effectively.

Making matters worse is the other side of the platoons (Barger, Lukes) have stunk recently. DS is the only one who has been playing well against both sides, but JS practically salivates at the thought of pinch hitting for him any chance he gets.
