This is a must win the lead in the division has been nearly squandered. They had several games that were very winnable but the offense has cratered .

Would mean the Jays would have to match the Yankees win total for the last 4 games.

I can handle a loss, but my heart can't take another game stolen from us by biased umpiring.

With the long history of bias towards the Red Sox and Yankees and the prevalence of sports betting, my mind can't shut off when I go to sleep, even if there is no proof.

Wouldn't the Jays still effectively be leading due to the tiebreaker? The Yankees need to finish a game ahead in the standings to take the division due to the tiebreaker.

Jays clinch the AL East if we go 4-1 or better. Otherwise, here are the scenarios where the Yankees would overtake us:

• TOR: 3-2 NYY: 5-0
• TOR: 2-3 NYY: 4-1
• TOR: 1-4 NYY: 3-2
• TOR: 0-5 NYY: 2-3

3-2 feels safe IMO. 2-3 still iffy. Anything less would be trouble.

Yes. But if they end up tied after tonight, that means the Jays would have to match the Yankees wins for the remaining 4 games. if they go 3-1 or 4-0 we would have to match. Trouble IMO

In reality the Yankees are the ones who need to have the Jays lose so they can win the division.

Yeah a Jays loss + Yankees win tonight probably gives the Yankees the best odds of winning the division. My guess is the Yankees go 4-1 the rest of the way (sweep the CWS and win 2/3 from the O's) so in that scenario the Jays have to go 3-2. Very possible, but a loss tonight would lessen the margin for error. 

What would suck is if the teams are tied on Sunday morning and the Jays have to use Gausman. If they win, then it's fine since Gaus can start Game 1 of the ALDS on regular rest, but if they use him and have to play the WC round, then I don't even know what they'd do after Bieber in Game 1.

Right this is probably the toughest game the Jays have in the remaining 5. And the one with the most stakes/most pressure to perform.

Yankees have Fried and Rodon facing the s***** White Sox the next 2 nights, while a struggling Jays offense faces Crochet and Bello. I mean let's try to be nice to the Jays and say they split the next 2, then that means (barring a miracle from the White Sox), it would be tied heading into the weekend. I can't see a scenario where Gausman isn't starting on Sunday with the division on the line if that happens. 

Every game from here on out is must win, but I think tonight is bigger than the others based on the pitching matchup. Bello is solid but beatable. Crochet is a Cy Young candidate. Win tonight with IKF and Straw in the lineup (because you know JS is going to do that) then it takes some pressure off.

If the Sox and Orioles can each avoid getting swept I think the Jays will win the division.  Otherwise it feels like a stretch. 

3-2 is doable but just feeeeels unlikely given what we've seen for the last week or so.

I thought it would benefit MLB and TV ratings if Yankees are in the Wild Card Series versus getting the bye straight to the Divisional Series.

 

Thats 3 games worth of Nielsen ratings with NY playing for the Wild Card

 

so tin foil hat and league conspiracy favoring NY should be tempered down a bit.  Umpires are just emotional human beings and prone to dumb mistakes

 

Overall though,  Jays offense were a total $hit the past few games.  Can’t defeat the big bad wolves (i.e.  starting pitchers and the change-up pitch).   
 

Hopefully they can solve this mind busting problem in the next 5 games starting tonight against the Red Sox main man Mr. Crochet.
