Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted August 13, 2025 Posted August 13, 2025 Can the Jays keep taking advantage of a reeling Cubs squad? Pinkfloid 1
infinitebook Verified Member Posted August 13, 2025 Posted August 13, 2025 Horton hasn't given up a run in his last 4 outings, so we are getting him at a tough time. His workload is being managed though, so he shouldn't go deep into the game. On the Jays side, it feels good to be excited for Gausman starts again! Spanky__99 1
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2025 Posted August 13, 2025 Horton's ERA on the road this season is over 5, so lets hope that tendency keeps up today. 4 pitch guy mainly, 4 seam (95-96), curve(84), sweeper(84), change(88).. occasional sinker at 95. Spanky__99 1

On the surface, we should be able to get to a pitcher who doesn't generate very many swings and misses or strikeouts. I think we have to be patient and wait for a mistake, even if it gets to two strikes. There's no point in attacking the guy early if he doesn't have an out pitch.

Actually, Horton is underperforming his whiffs if anything. 60th percentile chase rate with a 66th percetile whiff rate. So he's got sneaky good stuff, it just hasn't been translating into strikeouts. With that said, he should provide a similar look to Ben Brown who we had no issues avoiding the swing and miss against. Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2025 Posted August 13, 2025 I was so confident on the Jays win total being over 76.5 that I bet 50 units* on the over. That should cash any day now. *1 unit = 1 dollar Stangstag 1

Underperforming perhaps, but still in the bottom quarter for strikeouts. I don't think there's a big time strikeout artist hidden by some bad luck. We should be able to get to him, since he has some trouble putting hitters away.

I was convinced Shatkins were going to have an epic offseason to bounce back. Never would I have thought we'd be winning for the reasons we are lol. Spanky__99 and Stangstag 2

I mean, not saying he should have elite numbers instead, but he's a 23 year old rookie who was a top prospect with big K numbers in the minors. Agree to disagree sure, but I actually do think there's hidden K potential in there between the minor league rate and the fact that he is getting chase and whiffs at the MLB, and I'm sure the Cubs think so as well. Just saying I wouldn't sell him short as the stuff might be better than the numbers have been showing.

I think the major league stats paint a better picture of what he is at this very moment than the minor league stats do. We can agree to disagree on that, Watching him tonight will give me a better read on what kind of potential he has. I have honestly only seen him pitch once against Boston a couple of weeks ago and he was awfully lucky to not get roughed up,

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2025 Posted August 13, 2025 Keys to victory: Jays won't be striking out so they need to have good aim on their line drives & hard ground balls Gausman needs to make sure that the Cubs' home runs are solo shots

This post should age well when it comes to the FO. Post season 4 of 6 years and the Birds were pinched in their best year by a game. Knock... knock... that's a good front office. Opinions change man.

Of course, I'm not going to stay rigid if im given new information like this season. Just enjoying the ride right now, im sure most will judge this team based on how we perform in the playoffs.
