Laika Community Moderator Posted July 14, 2025 Posted July 14, 2025 He was 139th on the Perfect Game draft board. Tiny college SS. Five foot eight. About 1.03 Alejandro Kirk's high. Under slot? Seems like a utility man prospect more than anything.

I mean - I hope he's an under slot guy I guess? Seems like a lackluster pick otherwise.

Laika Community Moderator Posted July 14, 2025 Posted July 14, 2025 He was probably the best draft eligible contact hitter in the SEC and he did hit 8 homers so it could be 40 pop or something. Stat scouting here, obviously. They actually have college leaderboards on Fangraphs now, interestingly. I just noticed that.

jmomcc Verified Member Posted July 14, 2025 Posted July 14, 2025 I'm guessing he is a hard sign. Maybe going to college.

And yes, he was named after the fictional character in the show 24. Pendleton 1

Probably just has insane $$$ demands. His scouting report makes it seem like the secondaries are way behind and there is little command

His scouting report makes it seem like the secondaries are way behind and there is little command Pipeline must be the more bullish on him, they have 75 FB 55 SL 50 CH with 45 command and ranked #44 overall. That seems like an easy 2-3M guy unless he's indeed asking the moon. I guess there is the whole NIL factor in play now, kids aren't leaving the whole bonus amount on the table when they turn it down anymore. I assume a big ticket arm like that can make high six or even seven figures per year in college now? Brownie19 1
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2025 Posted July 14, 2025 Just came to post on here for the first time in ages. Loving the draft so far, it's nice to see we are no longer allergic to Left handed hitters. Side note when did this board get a major facelift?

I assume a big ticket arm like that can make high six or even seven figures per year in college now? Yeah he was more in the 40 FV tier for McDaniel and Law. Here is what law said: Bauer has been up to 102 mph multiple times this spring, getting himself a ton of attention, but the rest of the package doesn’t live up to the pure velocity; he was 94-98 when I saw him with a 45 slider and 40 command. There’s plenty of effort here and he doesn’t have a great feel for the secondaries. He can generate huge spin rates on his breaking stuff, but because he doesn’t throw enough strikes with the fastball, he hasn’t developed enough feel for throwing and locating his slider, and casts it to try to get it in the zone rather than throwing it with conviction. He cuts himself off in his landing, and really, no one is throwing 102 without some effort anyway. There’s a ton to dream on here between the pure arm strength and spin rates up to 3,000 rpms, especially from the left side, but you have to trust your pitching development process. Easy to see why the player and teams just didn't align on $$$. Pendleton 1
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2025 Posted July 14, 2025 Jays take Dylan Watts in the 7th round. RHP from Auburn. Pitched in relief this year. https://www.fangraphs.com/players/dylan-watts/sa3044877/stats?position=P Rocking a solid 7+ ERA over 2 seasons in college.
Ray Verified Member Posted July 14, 2025 Posted July 14, 2025 I doubt we're going overslot for JoJo Parker, so these off-the-board picks we're making in the later rounds feel like it's because there's overslot deals already agreed to for later in the draft. Laika 1
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 14, 2025 Posted July 14, 2025 Danny Thompson Jr. Older college RP.
jmomcc Verified Member Posted July 14, 2025 Posted July 14, 2025 Unless Parker is overslot, it feels like the are setting up to sign overslot later.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted July 14, 2025 Posted July 14, 2025 The Jays must have a behind the scenes deal with the other Parker twin no? He still hasn't been picked.
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 14, 2025 Posted July 14, 2025 Well, him or any other overslot player.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2025 Posted July 14, 2025 Karson Ligon - 4 year SR RHP in the 9th Another under slot guy I guess. Meh

Meh This is what I hate about the slot draft system. It gets very boring when every team just punts every pick from rounds 5 through 9. You basically just flip part of the draft upside down for no real reason.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2025 Posted July 14, 2025 Still fourteen available from pipeline top 100, plenty over slot candidates beyond them I'm sure https://www.mlb.com/draft/tracker/2025/undrafted

Laika Community Moderator Posted July 14, 2025 Posted July 14, 2025 One more boring dude on a slot pick and then we can sign this year's Carson Messina or whatever in round 11 or 12 wooooooop

A year ago, Nathan Flewelling represented the western region as a big, strong left-handed high school hitter whom the Rays selected in the third round. Piasentin fits a similar profile as a young hitter who was rising up Draft boards after showing off his tools in a swing through Arizona during Spring Training. At 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds, Piasentin is a presence in the box from the left side of the plate. His standout tool is his raw power, and he can get to it. He had very impressive batting practice sessions with a wood bat in Arizona, showed he could catch up to premium velocity with a base hit to his pull side against a Royals Minor League reliever with upper-90s gas and turned around junior college competition during that Arizona trip. Not everyone is a believer in the hit tool as there is some swing-and-miss, with some scouts thinking it could take a while for him to be ready to produce good numbers as a pro. While Piasentin has a plus arm that works well from third base, it's unclear whether he'll be able to stay there. He's a bit of a plodder with limited range, so a move to first base might be in order, while some wouldn't mind seeing that arm in right field. He's committed to Miami should the Draft not work out, with some scouts thinking he could emerge as an early-round pick after a few years of college reps. I've seen this kid play. The power is really there but the swing and miss is a legit concern. He's huge compared to the rest of the kids Brownie19 1
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 14, 2025 Posted July 14, 2025 10th rounder is this guy https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=smith-024aus was two-way in college but announced as an OF. seems boring but maybe in 7 years he will be the next Nathan Lukes!!!!!

Ray Verified Member Posted July 14, 2025 Posted July 14, 2025 There's the overslot pick. Jared Spencer from University of Texas. Lefty that sits 96 mph with a wipeout slider. Probably a reliever long term, but definitely an intriguing pick.
