He was 139th on the Perfect Game draft board.

Tiny college SS. Five foot eight. About 1.03 Alejandro Kirk's high.

Under slot? Seems like a utility man prospect more than anything.

Seems like another underslot guy yeah, perhaps in this range based on Cape Cod performance rather than college

2024 – SOPHOMORE SEASON AT USF

Played in 45 games and made 43 starts … batted .258 with nine doubles, one homer, 19 RBI and 21 runs scored … drew 13 walks and posted a .345 OBP … went 9-for-13 in stolen base attempts … tallied 10 multi-hit games, including a three-hit game vs. Memphis (Mar. 24) … recorded a season-high three RBI vs. North Carolina A&T (Mar. 9) … longest hitting streak (5 games) and longest reached base streak (17 games) ... played for the Hyannis Harbor Hawks of the Cape Cod League during the summer ... named a CCL All-Star ... hit .326 with 30 hits, including three doubles and two homers, and drove in 18 runs in 29 games.

.307/.403/.493 slash line this year with 8 HRs and a 1:1 BB/K ratio.

I mean - I hope he's an under slot guy I guess?  Seems like a lackluster pick otherwise.

The Jays already have a deal with the twin, where they take him is not relevant.

Is that a rumour that's out there?

He was probably the best draft eligible contact hitter in the SEC and he did hit 8 homers so it could be 40 pop or something.

Stat scouting here, obviously.

They actually have college leaderboards on Fangraphs now, interestingly. I just noticed that.

How does a guy named JACK BAUER drop at all?

c'mon.

Hardest FB ever recorded by a high school lefty at 103. Maybe teams can smell injury problems coming with the recent velo ramp up

Bold move for him to hold out for enough $$$ that nobody will draft him.  We'll see if his arm holds up in college or not.

And yes, he was named after the fictional character in the show 24.

Many teams wouldn't care about injury risk. He can pitch a bit, have TJS, then they can finalize his development.

Probably just has insane $$$ demands. His scouting report makes it seem like the secondaries are way behind and there is little command

Pipeline must be the more bullish on him, they have 75 FB 55 SL 50 CH with 45 command and ranked #44 overall. That seems like an easy 2-3M guy unless he's indeed asking the moon.

I guess there is the whole NIL factor in play now, kids aren't leaving the whole bonus amount on the table when they turn it down anymore. I assume a big ticket arm like that can make high six or even seven figures per year in college now?

Just came to post on here for the first time in ages. Loving the draft so far, it's nice to see we are no longer allergic to Left handed hitters.

Side note when did this board get a major facelift?

Yeah he was more in the 40 FV tier for McDaniel and Law. Here is what law said:

Bauer has been up to 102 mph multiple times this spring, getting himself a ton of attention, but the rest of the package doesn’t live up to the pure velocity; he was 94-98 when I saw him with a 45 slider and 40 command. There’s plenty of effort here and he doesn’t have a great feel for the secondaries. He can generate huge spin rates on his breaking stuff, but because he doesn’t throw enough strikes with the fastball, he hasn’t developed enough feel for throwing and locating his slider, and casts it to try to get it in the zone rather than throwing it with conviction. He cuts himself off in his landing, and really, no one is throwing 102 without some effort anyway. There’s a ton to dream on here between the pure arm strength and spin rates up to 3,000 rpms, especially from the left side, but you have to trust your pitching development process.

Easy to see why the player and teams just didn't align on $$$.

I doubt we're going overslot for JoJo Parker, so these off-the-board picks we're making in the later rounds feel like it's because there's overslot deals already agreed to for later in the draft.

Karson Ligon - 4 year SR RHP in the 9th

Another under slot guy I guess.  Meh

This is what I hate about the slot draft system.

It gets very boring when every team just punts every pick from rounds 5 through 9.

You basically just flip part of the draft upside down for no real reason.

Jays take Tim Piasentin - 3rd Base - High School player from Alberta in the 5th round

The Canadian province of Alberta has produced just four big leaguers, a quartet of right-handed pitchers led by Michael Soroka. A year ago, Nathan Flewelling represented the western region as a big, strong left-handed high school hitter whom the Rays selected in the third round. Piasentin fits a similar profile as a young hitter who was rising up Draft boards after showing off his tools in a swing through Arizona during Spring Training. At 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds, Piasentin is a presence in the box from the left side of the plate. His standout tool is his raw power, and he can get to it. He had very impressive batting practice sessions with a wood bat in Arizona, showed he could catch up to premium velocity with a base hit to his pull side against a Royals Minor League reliever with upper-90s gas and turned around junior college competition during that Arizona trip. Not everyone is a believer in the hit tool as there is some swing-and-miss, with some scouts thinking it could take a while for him to be ready to produce good numbers as a pro. While Piasentin has a plus arm that works well from third base, it's unclear whether he'll be able to stay there. He's a bit of a plodder with limited range, so a move to first base might be in order, while some wouldn't mind seeing that arm in right field. He's committed to Miami should the Draft not work out, with some scouts thinking he could emerge as an early-round pick after a few years of college reps.

I've seen this kid play. The power is really there but the swing and miss is a legit concern. He's huge compared to the rest of the kids

There's the overslot pick. Jared Spencer from University of Texas. Lefty that sits 96 mph with a wipeout slider.

Probably a reliever long term, but definitely an intriguing pick.

He's a senior though? So surely not a ton over.
