Doubleplay21 Verified Member Posted May 14, 2025 Posted May 14, 2025 Hoffman was not ready and Schneider put him in anyways. Need a major league manager like Cash.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted May 14, 2025 Posted May 14, 2025 Brutal loss, but a better loss than the 2-1 losses where the Jays hit 16 singles. Orgfiller and HomeRunHomer 2

Stuff like pulling a struggling closer for a better matchup is why the Rays always seem to perform better than expected. No chance Schneider pulls Fairbanks there.

Maybe there's some merit to the other teams who saw a red flag in his physical. Yall just gonna forget he struck out 6 in 2 innings a few days ago?? Short memory yall lol Spanky99 1
Masterbather Verified Member Posted May 14, 2025 Posted May 14, 2025 Damn I fell asleep on my couch after eating some really good Thai food, woke up after the game was over and just looked at the box score. Glad I didn't have to witness that. Hoffman, I just don't understand you bro.

Lights out all of April, then May rolls around and he blows multiple saves in a row, followed by a dominant series against the Mariners looking like his April self again, then follows up with an absolute turd against the Rays. May has been a coinflip so far with him on the mound.
Laika Community Moderator Posted May 14, 2025 Posted May 14, 2025 Hoffman has a 6.05 ERA and a 1.62 xFIP He has the best xFIP in baseball of everybody with 10+ innings! Last night was f***ed. Threw one good splitter to Walls then hung the rest of them outside to Jankowski, who wanted to leave the bat on his shoulder. Lucky hit by Jansen. Decent contact by Simpson that is a double play with normal defensive alignment - left a fastball in the middle of the plate though. Hangs another splitter to Lowe. Then throws a couple of good sliders to Caminero before hanging the home run pitch. I don't really know what is going on. Nothing? Just bad luck? Pitch selection issues? There is an argument to made that he should dial down the splitter and lean more on his FB-SL. Save the splitter as something to surprise lefties, maybe throw it 10% or 15% of the time. Can't be throwing something 27% of the time if you have nights like this where you have a 1/7 execution rate on the pitch. Spanky99 and Orgfiller 2
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted May 14, 2025 Posted May 14, 2025 Hoffman line looked much worse than he actually looked. Just some bad circumstances leading to a mistake pitch that inflated everything. Obviously you can’t walk Jankowski but I don’t feel overly concerned with him. His ERA is inflated for the rest of the year but I feel confident he’s going to be very good way more often than not. Just sucks to lose that game after Varsho took the lead. Stangstag 1

And when he’s not 100 filth he’s just giving up little hits, then 1 big homer
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted May 14, 2025 Posted May 14, 2025 Not concerned with Hoffman at all. 2-3 blowups all within the span of 2 weeks definitely will inflate his ERA, but his other peripherals such as K/9, K/BB and his FIP are still very elite and some of the best in all of baseball amongst relievers.
