It's nice to see Atkins being pro-active in regards to the rotation depth issues. Turnbull if healthy should be a nice arm at the back of the rotation.

Digging the Turnbull signing. That’s about as good of an add as you can make in early May. 
 

Jose Urethra kind of sucks but he was averaging 97 on his fastball in his lone appearance this year. I’d rather try that out instead of 87 from Casey Lawrence.

turnbull has a career 3.83 FIP.  I'm not sure why he didn't get a job in the offseason.

His numbers out of the Bullpen last year we’re quite good compared to the 9 starts he made. I don’t think they signed him to start. More bulk innings and bridge middle relief when needed. Hopefully they can unlock something in him because he obviously still throws hard.

Can't argue with these, Turnbull especially. Urena may be worth a look in the bullpen but I don't have much expectation there.

Surprised they optioned walker. He had looked decent so far and is a Lefty. Meanwhile Tate has been garbage.

I'm pretty sure Ureña is purely roster fodder. He'll maybe make one, tops two spot starts, eat a few bad innings, pitch in a blowout one time and then get DFA'd whenever we need a fresh arm or one of the injured guys come back.

Does the 60day IL tell us something about his injury or was end of May realistically gonna be the earliest anyway?

Yeah the Lawrence's and Lauer's and Urena's are all discardable. That can change if they pitch well but I highly doubt Urena lasts the year on the team.

They seem to be making this a bigger deal than the Lawrence pickup though. Not sure that means anything though.

Agreed but with Little, Fluharty and Lauer already in the pen they opted for the righty instead.

Yeah I think best case scenario both guys would return around then anyway.

Yeah that makes sense. Goes to show you how quickly pen depth evaporates. In Feb it was looking like the pen was in decent shape and now you've got 2 elite guys in Hoffman/Garcia, a good lefty in Little, decent lefty in Fluharty and a bunch of guys who look like crap/replacement level. Green should be better but so far he's been underwhelming as well.

Yeah Green and Y-Rod don't look very good.

If Lauer flames out, and that could happen any appearance for him, I could see him getting dumped and Walker coming back up.
