Oh wow

Had a ton of chances to win it with one f'n hit

This is what you get for failing that many times

I'm not alone in thinking that I had feeling that Rowdy would go deep against Barnes?

Head for the exits.

I hate to keep harping on it, but middle relief was an absolutely massive black hole that everyone and their dog knew about this offseason.

Had the FO, invested in a capable middle reliever for a couple million dollars, we would probably be 15-5 right now with a chance to be 16-5. That's extraordinarily frustrating.

I'm almost more frustrated that Dan Wilson's horrendous managing and an incredibly bad Mariners team got rewarded than I am about the Jays loss.

K, DFA Barnes please he has absolutely nothing

We all knew the game was over as soon as Barnes was in.

Although to be fair, Jays probably take another 3 innings to plate a run so it wouldn’t have mattered much.

Yeah I'm not going to blame Barnes here. He's on the roster in a mop up role but the Jays seemingly had no one else to use with Hoffman and Garcia not available. Even if the latter two were available, it wouldn't have mattered. This one is on the bats. They had plenty of chances.

In my opinion, they should juggle the line up

Bichette

Springer

Vlad

Santander

Varsho when he is back

Gimenez

Kirk

And so forth

It would also be nice to trade for a 3rd baseman

Austin Riley OR Isaac Paredes

not sure their availability and Jays may give have to give up alot

The M’s brought in their version of Barnes and the Jays powered  their way to 3 straight outs.

Their version of Barnes is Casey Lawrence. They actually invested in middle relief and that's why they won today. We just left a bunch of empty spots and foolishly filled them with waiver claims and minor league invites instead of believing in this team and filling obvious holes that have now cost us at least 3 games this season.

Kirby Yates blew a game today too.  They may not have won all three of those games with someone else brought in.

Again the f***in box score,

Jays 12 hits 4 runs

Mariners 10 hits 8 runs

It should not take 12 hits to score 4 runs (and 1 was the ghost runner)

Need to be slugging way more than they currently are.

Not the reason we lost at all but it was just obvious that he has nothing tonight. Terrible fastball and doesn't even have an out pitch I could see so what's the point? I don't get it honestly

Agree. The lineup needs changes. Andres is nothing more than a 7th hitter. Kirk no more than 7 or 8.

You recently told be that they already knew he had better stuff than any of the other available relievers before he even threw a pitch. Interesting change of face.

Don't believe this is true. I said that about Little and Fluharty when you were complaining about them, like a dingus.

A month ago I said Barnes blows and I don't get why he is here.

I said nothing about Little, you brought him up on your own.

I stated, as I have several times, that we should have signed better middle relief options and got this response:

"It's not 1999.

You can just measure the stuff of guys like (Fluharty, Lovelady, Barnes)* and compare it to available free agents. They probably project better than the alternatives that weren't signed"

*The guys that were being discussed

I don't think that this is true. I think that there were better options out there and that we should have signed them. Agree or disagree with that, but I'm not going to play a game of mental gymnastics.

Barnes wasn't even mentioned in the post sequence

Lol you are an actual psychopath just like always. Welcome to the new board, Grant.

Laika loves to flip-flop all the time, but he doesn't realize it.

Yeah

This loss is on the offense

But Barnes gotta go

Sucks they couldn't push across that final run in extras. Definitely a winnable game.

It's sad that this offense can only muster 4 runs on 12 hits, but this is the type of lineup the Jays have and that's the reality. Once Santander and Vladdy get going with the longball, should get better results but still the lack of power in this lineup is a concern. Feels like 2023 all over again.

My one criticism of Atkins and this FO over the last couple of years. Some will disagree with me, but that's alright. It seems like in every season, whether it was 2021 with the bullpen, 2022 with their bench/defense, and 2023 with the lack of power, they neglect certain parts of the roster filling them with waiver claims and minor league invites instead of filling those obvious holes with more reliable options during the offseason.

Tough one to lose and given some of the other losses, feels like we could have 2 or 3 more wins like Grant said. That's baseball though and can't win them all. Jays likely will win some games they had no business of winning over the course of 162 games.

Regardless, will take a 12-9 record so far given where this team was last season. Lets hope they remain consistent, and can be in a good spot come July where they're looking to add!
