Big_Walleye Verified Member Posted April 11, 2025 Posted April 11, 2025 Yesterday's game was hard to watch for several reasons. The Jays lack of hitting was high on the list for sure. But the home plate umpire was worse than terrible. And his favor towards the Red Sox was downright embarrassing. 2.04 runs in favor of the home team?!! How do you explain that? Omar and Jays24 2
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2025 Posted April 11, 2025 It was obvious as hell during the game. I wish Schneider would stick up for his team more DURING the games. It's always been Pete Walker who has had to do that. Although I respect Schneider making a comment about it after the game at least. It's complete ********. BB17 1
glory Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2025 Posted April 11, 2025 I’m not saying this as a bitter Jays fan, but as a baseball fan. This umpire should be investigated for gambling. An ump who is so blatantly one sided, especially with what we know about gambling now, raises a huge red flag. Angel Hernandez was bad but he was bad both ways. This was the most obvious one sided umpiring I can remember watching. Of course nothing will be done about it, and of course Schneider complains about it behind a desk post game rather than in real time (John Gibbons would have thrown hands by the 6th inning), so have to take this on the chin and move on. Schneider wouldn't have missed too much of the game if he would have lost his mind on the Sandlin pitch at least. I think he commented before he had a chance to watch much video. I'll bet he came unglued if he watched any of it later.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2025 Posted April 11, 2025 Manny Gonzalez should be sent straight to an El Salvadorian prison The most egregiously umpired game I've ever seen. He clearly had the Sox money line.

I've always wondering whether barking and arguing with an umpire and/or getting booted out actually helps or hurts your team (or has no impact) during that game and/or the remaining games within a series. Probably depends on the umpire. Some would say "f*ck this guy - barking in my ear about everything, he's not getting the benefit of the doubt", while others may get concerned it's become too uneven and try to balance things out? Others may be good at trying to remain impartial, not matter who's barking at them. Interesting topic. But I'm not sure it's clear that managers should always be standing up for their team more.

The game cameras showed Schneider harping on the umpire for most of the game, and he had to come out several times during the game to intervene to prevent his hitters from getting tossed.
BB17 Verified Member Posted April 11, 2025 Posted April 11, 2025 There was so many calls there were just so bad. The Bo strike call on the full count. The at bat Schneider was up 3-0 and he called 2 strikes that were so clearly balls was just ridiculous though, like not even close. He ended up walking anyways but like cmon.. Terminator 1

It seems like John and Pete weren't barking as much yesterday as they would have been last year. The cameras showed a lot of disgust but they didn't seem to be saying too much. I was fully expecting Pete to get the heave-ho during a mound visit. It makes me wonder if they're making an effort to bite their tongues this year.

The Sandlin strike 3 that he called a ball, then he plunks the guy next pitch. Also, the Vlad pinch hit AB he called a horrible inside pitch a strike. Vlad now in the hole 0-1 and gets a borderline second pitch that he then has to take a hack at. Just completely changes the complexion of the AB.

I'm honestly surprised Schneider didn't get tossed cuz if I was sitting anywhere close to the field I likely would have been giving the s*** I was saying lol.

I mean - the camera isn't on them "that" often and they obviously don't want to air managers/coaches cursing and swearing....so I'm not sure how you say this with any confidence. And again. Does barking, cursing and swearing at an umpire even help? or does it hurt the team? (not that they could be "hurt" anymore than they were last night)
BTS Community Moderator Posted April 11, 2025 Posted April 11, 2025 +2 runs is insane. Every reason to believe it made the difference in a 1-run game. max silver, Orgfiller and Terminator 3

It would have been easy for them to bite it right off yesterday though.
hanton Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2025 Posted April 11, 2025 for the 2024 season, league stats for the ump scorecard the Jays were 6th overall in pctFav (Percent Favored), The percentage of games in which the team received more favorable calls than their opponent. 53% https://umpscorecards.com/data/teams
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2025 Posted April 11, 2025 2 run swing is cray-cray, man. Not surprised honestly. Also, ole Johnny boy, should've been ejected at some point in that game last night. Fight for your club, bro.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2025 Posted April 12, 2025 The ump yesterday behind home plate was awful! Couldn't believe some of the strike calls.
