I hear you but he had all winter to recover and should be 100%. I understand not going all out on an infield chopper but legging out a double on a close play is the perfect time to test yourself.

He is 100% or he wouldn't be on the field. Point is, there's no reason to try pushing it in game 1 of a meaningless exhibition game when the only goal is to get your reps and not get hurt.

This is dumb gruber - even for you.

Meh.. I don't like seeing players jogging into outs at second on what would normally be doubles. As a player, wouldn't you instinctively go at least 95% to get the double, especially when the play is right in front of you? For people that haven't played the game, don't bother trying to understand. So basically what I'm saying is that I think Bo put it into a higher gear halfway to second and he didn't look too swift. Heavy legs, lol.

Bo ran hard plenty of times throughout the game. What's the upside of going 100% in every single play in the first game of spring training before he's even fully conditioned and ready for the season? Spring training exists for a reason, there's no reason to pretend this is the 7th game of the world series.

The downside risk of Bo overdoing it in a warm up game is far greater than any kind of upside. This would do nothing more than increasing his risk of injury in a completely meaningless game. If he blows out his calf in spring training by pushing too hard too soon that could easily set him up for another wasted season.

Geez, gaslight much? I was only referring to the last 45 feet going into second on his double. I did mention not going hard unnecessarily up the first base line on ground balls did I not? Just saying when Bo did project his speed, he looked a bit slow. I know it's early but is his speed supposed to significantly increase when the season starts? All I'm saying is he looks slow, that's all.

Not sure if anyone saw or posted this today.  Bassitt was the ball boy for losing their fantasy league.  He went 4-10 (football I'd assume?) and had to wear a custom jersey accordingly.

People are gonna crap on me but I'm telling you having Gimenez at SS and Bo at 2B would be a no brainer for me.  Hopefully we'll see the Jays give it a shot for a few innings in the Spring to see how it looks.

Bo has never had the arm for SS. Not sure how he's been playing there all along.

When I saw that all I could think was... imagine if he tripped, landed on his right arm and was out for the season.

Did Barger get hurt today?  Saw that he was replaced by Mcadoo.

And should we use this as a general Spring Training Thread?

If Rodon and Martinez can become good hitters this year then our lineup is set.  That's putting a lot of pressure on them so let's see how things play out, looking great so far.

Need 2 of Martinez/Rodon/Wager/Barger/Clement/Schneider to step up.

Bloss is having trouble throwing strikes but the stadium gun has him throwing 97/98

That's an interesting development. If he can sustain that he will have raised his ceiling quite a bit.

I've seen enough.

Alan Roden is our Opening Day leftfielder.

So you have

RF - Santander

CF - Springer

LF - Alan Roden to start the season ?

Don’t forget Myles Straw !!! 💁🏼‍♂️

I don't know I haven't thought that far out yet. That might work though with Wagner at DH. But I'd also like to see Martinez in there some at DH/3B.

I'm all for manipulating service time as well unless we think one of these guys can win ROY.

Myles Straw will be burried in the minors to save money.

He should have been here in September instead of wasting at-bats on the likes of Stewart Berrora and Luis De Los Santos.

I was sarcastic Jonn.

Only way he gets a shot is at CF if Loperfido and Springer are injured on top of Varsho to start the season.

Meh, Roden wasn't on the 40 man roster yet and he was still getting his feet wet in AAA. He took a seismic leap forward in AAA later in the season as well and that may have been delayed if he were called up to MLB too soon. It's really not a situation to continue being upset about after so much time as I recall you griping about this back in September as well.

I’m fully on board with Orelvis making the team as the DH if the bat looks like it’s ready. Legit power and should be able to hit LHP, which are/were two big weaknesses on the team. Whether the team would let him DH is the question. Usually having a young prospect in the DH spot isn’t ideal but if he’s the best option for that spot on the team then worry about that later.

It's going to be interesting to see what the heck they do with all of these Buffalo Boys, especially since they all have options. They have a shitload of these guys. Even the ones who seem glossed over like Lukes look like decent bench players.

I'd love to see a trade for more pitching depth.

It's obviously early but the Jays tend to stick guys at one position and let them play there more than most teams. They obviously have their OF/INF UT guys but they usually make their corner OFs pick one spot and the same can be said for fringe infielders.

So if we were going to glean anything from the first two spring games:

  • Barger getting his lone start at 3B could be a tell that they plan on mixing him in there as much as they do the outfield.
  • Orelvis has yet to play 3B but has played 2B and DH'd and I've seen some local writers speculate that he could see a lot of time DHing.
  • Loperfido started his lone game in CF. Does he have the leg up on CF while Varsho is out?
  • Lukes played RF. Is he not under consideration to be the Varsho replacement in CF?
  • Roden has played LF and RF. In the past the Jays seemed to stick with one corner. I wonder if Barger's disastrous debut in LF after only playing RF changed their thinking on that a little.
  • McAdoo has played both games at 3B. He's behind in the timeline but he's a lot more interesting if he can stick at 3B.

It would be great to see a little more pitching depth in AAA, given how many of our prospects have arrived at AAA and completely sh*t the bed.  I wonder how optimistic the org is that some of our guys in AAA can rebound and/or contribute.

Scherzer looking pretty good in his first competitive pitches in blue. Sitting 92-93, reached back for 94 on a couple of occasions. Displayed the majority of his arsenal, mostly fastballs but showed slider, curveball, cutter and changeup. Two Ks.

Loperfido took a scary hit against the wall playing defense. Running back on the ball, he stumbled and ended up tripping neck first into the CF padding. Had to leave the game for precautionary measures, moving his neck on the way out.
