Hi all,

Long time stalker who knows most of you by reading your comments on BJMB for about 3 years without creating a username. Lots of discussions where I don't feel like I will add anything that wasn't discussed already.

There is one subject I don't see discussed as much. My lack of knowledge in the current Jays management system below Atkins and other teams offices around the league won't allow me to make my own opinion. I know it's been debated over thousands of words if Shapiro and Atkins are doing a good job or not. This is not the point. If you want a change, who would you pick and why ? If you love Shapiro and/or Atkins, and were to be disappointed about the team making a change in their office. Who would make it easier for you to accept the change and why ?

If the Orioles GM is tired of them pinching pennies he'd probably be worth talking to.

But as for assistant GMs I'm not sure who I would pick. I don't really follow them much and it's hard to know what they are responsible for anyway.

Hello there, friendly stalker! Welcome to the posting life.

Thank you !

You guys have a nice thing ongoing here. Lots of long time posters.

Small background on myself. Listened to some Expos when I was 8-12yrs old. Die hard MTL Canadiens fan, sorry Leafs fans ! 🫣 Live right by Ottawa on the QC side. Got into baseball again in 2015 when I met my wife who liked the Blue Jays and we would bang every game we'd watch together during that great season ! Never stop watching them after. We brought our son to Toronto this summer for his first live game and we got lucky with a 10-3 win over the Reds with 5 homers !

Nice to see comments coming in. Will read more on James Click !

I think if the team struggles this season Atkins is gone at the end of his contract, Rogers loves Shapiro so he'll likely be extended and I wouldn't be surprised if James Click takes over as GM.

Jeff Luhnow.

Wasn't he barred or suspended from MLB or something of that nature? He hasn't found a job in MLB since, I believe.

He was under the same suspension as AJ Hinch.  Hinch has a job.  There are text messages and evidence that everyone in the the organization was hiding the sign stealing scandal from Jeff.  He was the one guy that didn't know the full extent of what was going on.  He absolutely is eligible to return to the MLB.  It's just that no one has hired him.

Because he's been blackballed man. No Soup for Luhnow.

Ed's been blackballed from his own family.  He doesn't seem like the type that wouldn't hire Luhnow.  It's just that I don't think he actually follows baseball and he's probably never heard of him..lol

I could see him replacing Atkins, with Shapiro sticking around

I think this would be fine. Mark Shapiro's biggest weakness here has been his loyalty to Ross Atkins.

Aren't they(Click/Atkins) of the same ilk or think-tank when it comes to our FO though?

That's the thing nobody really knows one way or the other. The Blue Jays have been pretty vague on what his actual job duties entail so it's impossible to know whether some sort of cure for the Blue Jays ills or part of the disease.

I'm always hesitant to name names but these are the orgs I would look at to poach an AGM:

Dodgers (duh)
Brewers (seriously, don't understand how people overlook what they've done)
Cleveland (basically the same as Milwaukee, though teams poach them constantly)
Twins (they poached the right Cle people, their pitching system and farm are quite nice)
Rays (probably overplayed but they still produce a ton of smart baseball people)

Brewers are definitely underrated. Maybe the most underrated org in the game

A really good developmental org and constantly targeting the right players via trade

I place the Brewers right up there with the Rays as a smaller market club that consistently does a great job despite not being able to run larger payrolls.

Shapiro is the biggest problem in my opinion.  His hirings have been terrible.  Atkins.  Montoyo.  Schneider.  Scouting.  Development.  Whoever is staffing the high performance department.

We may have the best facilities in the sport in Dunedin but clearly not the best people running them as our pitchers are always hurt and we aren't drafting and developing stars.

Shapiro is the problem and always has been.  He hires dumb people and sticks with them.  How he was portrayed in Moneyball may not be far from the truth.  He's good at renovating stadiums but an empty stadium is still an empty stadium if you don't have a team good enough to attract the fans.  The shine will wear off the renovations pretty quickly.

Time to clean house from top to bottom and that starts with the President.

I think the high performance department has largely done a good job keeping the team healthy and on the field. This is especially true with the rotation in particular as the team has enjoyed very healthy starting rotations most seasons during this competitive window. On the position player side I think the team has done a good job as well, aside from the recurring calf injuries suffered by Bo and Donaldson during the previous competitive window.
