Laika Community Moderator Posted August 31, 2025 Posted August 31, 2025 I would call up Yesavage. The strike zone in AAA is weird. He has a 2.79 FIP there. Have to take a shot because how else are they improving the pen this year other than praying a couple of guys figure it out? Gen.Disarray, Spanky__99, abola2121 and 1 other 4

You’d think the front office would’ve learned their lesson about relief pitchers last year when they all went to s***. You need to bring in as many good arms as possible to help weather these kinds of situations.

He's had a chance to adjust to the major league baseball as that's the ball they use in AAA, and having him throw to one of MLB's best framers in Kirk could potentially help bring the walks under control a little bit. Aside from a potential Yesavage Fisher should be brought back up as soon as his 15 days are up as well. I always felt that it was a mistake when the team chose to send him to AAA as he was arguably their best/most reliable reliever since his initial callup. abola2121 1
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2025 Posted August 31, 2025 Would definitely call up Yesavage and see what he can do out of the pen. Got nothing to lose at this point!
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2025 Posted August 31, 2025 Blue Jays are going to have a tough time selling those Home Plate Terrace Club Memberships at $20K per seat lol.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2025 Posted August 31, 2025 If Yesavage isn't called up today, he's not eligible for the Postseason roster?

Yesavage is still getting his feet wet in AAA at this point. He's experienced a bit of an adjustment at every level along the way this season and it appears as though he may be nearing MLB readiness based on his last few starts.
Masterbather Verified Member Posted September 1, 2025 Posted September 1, 2025 Happy to get to win today, kind of amazing we didn't lose more ground but this team is leaking oil right now. It seems every game we have to use too many arms out of the bullpen because a lot of guys are failing to get the job done. Scherzer is a concern and was always going to be a concern. We don't know what we're going to get from him. It will be infuriating if they don't call up Yesavage with an opportunity to make the postseason roster. We have one silver bullet and we desperately need to try to use it. A lot of things had to happen for us to be in this position this year and who knows when we'll get a chance again, especially with how wide open the American League is compared to a killer National League.

Things aren't nearly as dire as you are making them out to be (surprise surprise). Despite the relative struggles of the pen over the month of August the club finished the month with a 15-12 record which is a pretty decent result all things considered. Just because somebody mentions concerns with the team, which a lot of people do on here, that doesn't mean they're hyperventilating or panicking or even depressed. It just means they're pointing out concerns with the team. Which is what a message board is for. Is that okay? Is that allowed? Jays24 1

I remember being concerned that we didn't do nearly enough for our bullpen in 2021 and waited too long to address it. I was overreacting they said, we're on a roll and doing great, right up until we missed the playoffs by one game. Was concerned about our bullpen again in 2022. Calm down you're overreacting they said. People actually liked that pen. We know what happened there. Concerned about the offense in 2023, well in fairness everybody was, even the most staunch supporters of this team knew it was a problem.
jmomcc Verified Member Posted September 1, 2025 Posted September 1, 2025 Yea Yesavage really needs to be up. He strikes people out. That's enough. Get him into the pen. Masterbather 1

They've exceeded expectations, sometimes you have these magical years. Even then, you know the one thing that has been consistent? The pitching largely has been poor. The pitching is still a problem. It's still the thing most likely to kill this team.

It's still the thing most likely to kill this team. The starting pitching has been both poor and lucky which is a weird combo. Like, essentially one injury that cost real time. They were in line to get through a whole year with like 6 starters.

Masterbather Verified Member Posted September 1, 2025 Posted September 1, 2025 According to ESPN Bieber is set to face the Reds instead of the Yankees. Is ESPN just assuming based on recent schedule? I have to assume Bieber faces the Yankees given the enormity of that series compared to the Reds. I didn't watch the whole game today did they mention anything about upcoming pitching matchups?
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2025 Posted September 1, 2025 Next three starts are positioned to be Bassitt, Berrios and Bieber. They could throw Lauer on Wednesday and push Bieber to Friday I guess.

What a grind the MLB is, lol.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2025 Posted September 1, 2025 Not adding Yesavage is baffling. Unless he can be added before the game this afternoon and still be eligible for the PS, it doesn't make sense.
