In Shi Davidi's latest article he mentions that Straw's money does not count towards the CBT payroll, which I'm assuming is due to him not being on the 40 man roster. Obviously he still counts towards the actual payroll but not being included in the CBT is at least a partial positive to a s***** move. Hopefully that means they have no incentive or interest in actually using him.

Seems like the Alonso/Scherzer package deal idea is picking up some steam on social media. Both Robert Murray and BNS have apparently thrown that possibility out there. It's not the ideal positional fit, but a Vlad-Taters-Polar Bear middle of the lineup is an exciting power combination which we haven't seen in a few years.

Atkins reverting back to 2020-22 Ross is a welcomed change.

If this is true - then that's a perfectly good explanation.  I think it's safe to assume that Rogers gave Atkins the "thumbs up" to cover the $11M to get the international money - possibly to give us a better shot at landing Sasaki and it likely will have no impact on our 2025 budget.

I know this might be crazy, but perhaps Atkins didn't get caught with his pants down - not knowing that he could wait and make that trade later, if Sasaki did sign with Toronto.  Maybe he didn't sacrifice any remaining 2025 budget or eat into CBT space that they might be looking at.

I'm certainly not surprised, as even for Atkins, those initial claims just didn't make a lot of sense.  This is a good example of why fans should wait for more/better information to become available - or just give the guy the benefit of the doubt a bit - before jumping to conclusions and making all kinds of BS allegations and claims.  People do this in general far too much and it's eroding society.

Good

So extend Vladdy and either sign Alonso and use Clement at 3B or sign Bregman

As stated above the offense is suddenly pretty exciting again

Would be kinda sick having 3 guys that could hit 40 Homeruns in the lineup.

Basically a recreated version of Donaldson, Baustia, and Encarnacion.

That Pete Alonso to the Jays tweet from Passan is going to hit like crack

I've been F5ing even more than usual waiting for this man.  Signing him or Bregman will give me the "we're so back" moment.

Hopefully this will be closer to 2015 than to 2013 but the excitement will be there regardless until opening day lol.

What are your guys thoughts on likelihood that the Jays could strike a trade with the Dodgers for a SP, or even RP

I know health is a huge concern for them as all of Snell, Glasgow, May, Consolin and the 3 Japanese musketeers have missed either all of 2024 or large parts of 2024 but they're still 8-9 pitchers deep in the rotation.

You'd surely think some of their agents are probably going to the front office and asking "so what's the plan, will my client get any starts this year?"

Might be a good opportunity to pick up a guy like Dustin May as a #5 / #6 for us and build back up ?

Perhaps the Jays could trade a bad contract for a bad contract like Montgomery for Springer. The Dodgers have endless money and none of their pitchers are likely to throw 150 innings let alone 200 so while they have a bunch of studs they are not really innings eaters - so they kind of need 10 starters.

Montgomery only has one year left whereas Springer has two more years. Also, Arizona's outfield is already set with Carroll, McCarthy, LGJ along with Alek Thomas & Pavin Smith. Unless they use Springer strictly at DH, though I'm sure Arizona will use the DH spot to rotate Naylor, LGJ and Smith.

Lots of buzz on Twitter about a Pete Alonso signing happening today

Hopefully the Mets don't cockblock the Jays by upping their offer at the last minute.

Wouldn't surprise me if Boras is using the Jays to get the Mets to increase their offer. A pillow contract for Alonso makes way too much sense for the Mets, so I'd be somewhat surprised if the Jays sign him, unless the Mets have tapped out completely.

If Alonso ends up going back to the Mets I'd like the Jays to immediately pivot to Profar and get a deal done.

Yeah I'm guessing that's the plan on the Jays end. Try for Alonso and pivot to Profar if that fails. There really isn't anyone else in the the FA market.

I don't see much talk of Alonso to the Jays on X/Twitter aside from some very questionable accounts posting about it, so I don't think anyone should be getting their hopes up here (yet).

Based on dollars, performance, and age, I'm going with Pivetta.

This article echos my fears on Quintana's underlying numbers and his inability to miss bats, but I'm guessing he'll come relatively cheap given the current market for arms.  I'd love Flaherty even if his durability is a bit suspect, but I don't think the Jays are going to win a bid for him.

Pretty sure it's all real

You forgot the most credible one:

lol @ the source. This is the same one that had Sasaki being a done deal to use right?
