Pirates are such a joke.

Hopefully they trade Paul Skenes and get him out of that mess.

They are, but in this case I don't think they did anything wrong. They let him pitch long enough to reach his 50K bonus. Then dropped him before he starts getting an extra 150k per ten innings because he's sucked and they called up a top prospect to replace him (Bubba Chandler)

Yeah I know. Having Heaney making 5 more starts isn't going to make any difference in the big picture and it's not like he's been pitching well at all.

I guess from an optics standpoint, doesn't look too good when it comes to signing other FA's in the future. But yeah that organization is still a hot mess.

Carrabis is getting dragged for this take in the comments, kinda funny

Yeah its one of those things though, its not like they're in the hunt for a playoff spot so getting someone better in his spot doesn't move the needle this year, so why not let him pitch?

Counterpoint: he has truly sucked so...why pay him more money to keep sucking?

In a vacuum its a totally defensible move to punt him. The fact that its the Pirates and they did the same thing with Tellez and are run by a penny-pinching cry-poor billionaire who refuses to spend money to put a solid team on the field and it becomes a pretty bad look

Yeah last sentence very well said. It looks more bad for optics when it comes to signing future FA's. Any vet or player looking to sign a one-year deal likely won't even consider the Pirates.

Otherwise, yes it's a defensible move since Heaney has sucked this season. If he was having a 2 WARish season, then different story lol.

Why when we play the Orioles they play us like  its Game 7 of the World Series but when they play the Yankees and Red Sox they roll over and die.

Its just a bad matchup for us. They slug homers lile crazy and we love giving up homeruns.

Its a wonder we’ve played the Yankees so well this year

Wheeler out and now Eovaldi is out for season with rotator cuff strain.

Got the update across all Fantrax fantasy baseball leagues I'm in last night, though thanks for the post!

Maybe the Pirates at least can win the World Series before the Leafs ever win another Stanley Cup. I'll give them that!

Willy Adames might well break the Giants' 30 HR season drought/curse. Has two today to bring his season total to 24. On a technicality, Rafael Devers is likely to also hit 30 on the season - already at 27 - but half would have come from his time on the Red Sox which goes against the spirit of truly breaking the drought.

Nobody has hit 30 for them since Barry Bonds in 2004.

I don't know if this has been discussed much but the re-emergence of Stanton as a seriously legit hitter, ignoring how completely illegitimate he is as a defender, is a terrifying development for the rest of the American League.

Judge, Bellinger and Stanton, flanked by a bunch of 20 home run hitters is going to be hell for pitchers to navigate four times a game.

People love to make fun of the Yankees but that lineup can overcome a lot of flaws and mistakes while storming their way through the playoffs.
