Yikes - is CBB the new Angel Hernandez? he's never been very good... but . 2nd worst accuracy in all of MLB from umps with more than 20 games behind the plate this season. Expand that to the last 5+ seasons (2020 to today) and ... 2nd worst accuracy of all umps over 100 games behind the plate at 92.43%. The only worse ump from 2020 to today is Rob Drake at 92.33%. One thing that must be said though.... the worst umpires of the last 5 years are still better than the worst umpires of 2015-2019. 2015-2019 of all umpires with more than 100 games behind the plate.... 54 umpires had accuracy lower than 92.33%. In fact... the worst was still Rob Drake at 90.2%. Even looking at Angel Hernandez alone... 2015 his accuracy was 89.9%. 2024? 93.2%.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 19, 2025 Posted August 19, 2025 That's interesting. I guess not surprising though with all the technology we have now. They should be improving. Rob Drake must keep a low profile because I've never heard of him.

It definitely says something positive overall about the umpires that the worst umpire today from a pure accuracy standpoint is better than nearly all of them from 10 years ago. Brownie19 1

I'm not saying that this is the case, but consistent umpires don't get much grief from the players, even if the data shows that they missed a lot of calls. Brownie19 1
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted August 19, 2025 Posted August 19, 2025 Not sure if I've ever seen anyone with first/second half splits quite like Michael Harris Jr. His career numbers in the second half are outstanding. This year he's taken the split to a whole new level, has raised his OPS from .558 to .705 since the start of June. Career first half: .243/.280/.383 (80 wRC+) Career second half: .322/.355/.551 (148 wRC+) 2025 first half: .210/.234/.317 (47 wRC+) 2025 second half: .398/.413/.732 (217 wRC+) It would be one thing to see a guy do this in one given year, could be chalked up to an injury or just an anomaly. But this is different, every year Harris Jr is dogshit until mid summer and then becomes one of the top hitters in baseball - bizarre Orgfiller, Brownie19 and Spanky__99 3

But, consistency in ump scores doesnt vary a whole lot From the worst to the best the range is only 92.16 to 93.7 in the 2015-2019 years of all umps with more than 100 games behind the plate. Accuracy though, varied from 90.2 to 93.8 Grant77 1

Victor Robles casually throwing his bat at the pitcher after being plunked (again and again) on a minor league rehab assignment. Yikes Major league baseball announced that Mariners outfielder Víctor Robles has received a 10-game suspension and an undisclosed fine from the league. The suspension will begin as soon as Robles is reinstated from the injured list, though Robles has filed an appeal and the suspension is being held in abeyance until the appeals process is complete. Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reported these details prior to the official announcement. Divish notes that the M’s would have to play a man short during the suspension.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2025 Posted August 20, 2025 23 minutes ago, hanton said: This is interesting as f....(mlb tv?? wow) Selfishly I hate that MLB.tv would go to ESPN. I’ve been getting the app for free for years through T-Mobile and I live outside of my team’s area, so I got all the Jays games via the app. Now I have to buy the ESPN DTC service? And also hope that ESPN doesn’t destroy it like they do with everything else they touch? Ugh. Awful. Looking at it for the league itself, this is probably a really good deal for them. I don’t know a single person on earth who has Apple TV. NBC will give them way more reach, and while I’m sure there will be a lot of Peacock included in there, it’s still an app that actually has other sports that people would watch (NFL, NBA, Olympics), unlike Apple. Netflix is the biggest streaming app out there so that’s a good move too. I haven’t had cable in years, and do have Netflix/Peacock, so this deal actually works out great for me if you eliminate the ESPN component. But RIP to MLB.tv. Amazing app that ESPN will crush.

Red sons Yankees and one of Cleveland or royals might get the last WC spot with Mariners getting the west
hanton Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2025 Posted August 20, 2025 I really only care about MLB TV so moving that to ESPN TV sucks - I wonder if they broadcast some games on Disney+ (since they own ESPN). If I can get ESPN games for a decent price and MLB removes the blackouts ...might still work Stangstag 1

Will NBC be blacking out games from Sportsnet as well? If yes, does that include playoff games? I don't really care about MLB.tv, but I do care about MLB Audio. I wonder if they will be retaining rights to that. I prefer the radio guys when I've driving or doing chores during the games. hanton 1

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2025 Posted August 20, 2025 It looks to me like a good throw gets him there. If you send him, you're praying for a wide throw. It's a long throw, so there was a decent chance it's offline (which it was). You also have Bregman coming up next with 2 outs, which does factor into the decision. I don't think it's as erroneous as Red Sox Watcher suggests (although I probably do send him).
