I was reading Ichiro's HOF plaque and it's odd that they have him as the first position player born in Japan when that is definitely not true. Dave Roberts (born and raised in Japan to a Japanese mother) is one notable example, but there are several others.

I get the sentiment, but they could have easily worded it differently to avoid such an obvious false statement.

There has been a real increase in the number of guys under investigation for this across a few sports. 

I feel like a decade down the line we're going to be looking at the combination of having sports gambling legalized and also easily accessed one press bets off of the apps as a pretty damaging combination. There needs to be some kind of friction there, so it's only the truly degen gamblers who go to far, as opposed to like 10-15% of young men that's been reported.

I can't even watch sports with my friends anymore. They are on their phones, constantly checking other games and new betting options. 

I throw $50 at my dynasty league every year, but they're on a whole other level and they don't even seem to care who wins. It's ruined the joy of sports for them in my view.

Everyone says they win, but I can't imagine that a couple of the guys aren't out a couple grand.

The advertising for sports betting is so predatory these days. Just in your face, all time, during every sporting event. 

Such a glaring irony to have that shoved in our faces and then see players getting in trouble for gambling stuff. Like, what did everyone expect?

Does anyone have a voice in the back of their heads every time there's an inexplicable call, saying that it's possibly due to gambling? If there are players in on it, there are officials in on it.

Not so much in baseball with reviews, but definitely in basketball and hockey where the calls are more subjective. Heck, we saw that in the NBA before gambling took off.

This year's Stanley Cup finals, for example, was some of the most one-sided officiating we've ever seen in that sport. Over 50% of the commercials are for sports betting, as well as prop bet updates from the broadcasters and banner ads all over. I'm not making accusations or anything, but it just kind of ruins the perceived integrity of the game for me.

I think we're going to see this reined in significantly in the future. At the very least I think we'll see regulations on advertising.

Major League ball players getting involved in this are simply idiots. Especially stars, the payoff is not there. Do they not understand how heavily monitored this s*** is? Sports books don't exist to lose money.

Sports gambling isn't going anywhere. As annoying as it is it's only going to increase. Once the dam was broken, the flood waters were going to overwhelm. There are f***ing teams in Vegas now. Right down the street from all the sharks.

At the end of the day I have no sympathy for anyone getting caught up in it, make your bed in life and lay in it.

Yea it would take some sort of massive organized fixing scandal (players and/or officials). A few players getting caught really isn't enough to dent gambling.

Or death. Death of athletes or people associated with them (gamblers will die but sports leagues don't care about them). Hopefully it doesn't go that far, but it could.

Maybe murder of like a superstar related to gambling. Suicide or some fringe player, society will shrug. I don't think its all that likely because players just make so much money now. They have an ability to repay that the average person just doesn't.

Not saying it won't happen for sure. To play devil's advocate, gambling revenues are growing at absolutely bonkers rates year over year. Something will give with this Pandora's box within 5-10 years.

A bunch of players on one team could have some impact.  Clase and Ortiz are not the only Guardians under investigation.  More names are going to come out.

For what it's worth, in it's one statement, the team made it very clear that no other players were under investigation.

Looked at the info I had again and see the wording was other investigations are under way, no mention that they were all Guardians so I must have assumed that on my first read.  Hector Gomez says there are other Guardians so that could be an indication there are not.

Being able to bet on the outcome of single pitches (prop bets) is simply asking for this.  It's such a little thing that makes it easy to cheat on.  They're asking for this type of thing by allowing these prop bets.  They'll either have to police the crap out of it, or eliminate them.  IMO - prop betting in single pitches is 100% unnecessary.  I suspect they are generally bad for society.

BTW - where's the investigation into Angel Reese and the prop bets on her missing her first FG attempt each game?  LOL

Prop bets on single pitches is like the pinnacle of degenerate gambling. I bet jaysblue doesn't even bet on that.
