Dante also left the Jays in Feb 2022. I wonder if the abilities of the players on the team have anything to do with the performance of the offense... Unfortunately, I don't have a way to produce any evidence of this and I'm fully aware it could be confirmation bias, but I can't tell you how many times that offence would conveniently break out of a slump when Dante would be in the dugout or visiting the team. Sadly without being able to figure out when he was with the team I can't even begin to look at those numbers.

This either goes to show you how quickly hitting coaches can go from being one of the best in the sport to pure sh*t - unworthy of a job (much like Martinez). Or it shows you how little impact they have. I was looking at the Rangers depth chart and just not sure what even did wrong. Adolis and Burger are hackers. Semien is pretty old now. Leody has always been a fringe bat. Seager, Langford, Jung, Heim, Smith are all hitting fine. Evan Carter was probably just overhyped and never had the batted ball stats to be a star but he could still be very good, who knows. I mean they signed Kevin Pillar and are playing him so that's not on the hitting coach lol

I had not heard that - thanks for sharing. Really too bad for a kid who burst onto the scene in 2023. I can't imagine how difficult that would be - playing ball all your life, chasing the dream and then getting a taste of it, with huge success, only for it to all come crashing down. At least he has a ring I guess?
BTS Community Moderator Posted May 6, 2025 Posted May 6, 2025 Remember when the Dodgers gave Conforto 17M and everyone said it made no sense? Well he’s at -0.5 WAR and a butcher in the outfield everyday, and it still makes no sense. Spanky__99 and Stangstag 2

mphenhef Verified Member Posted May 7, 2025 Posted May 7, 2025 I can't say I love the fact a guy who shut the Jays lineup down is DFA'ed two weeks later. It's frustrating watching every s***** pitcher the Jays struggle against get lit up by other teams (gio last night)

Don't know why the hitting coach should be fired for what looks to be turning into one of the worst contracts in MLB. Semien got paid and now he's an aging asset. But flags fly forever right? So the juice was probably worth the squeeze. Spanky__99 1

At this point Atkins is like a guy dropping coins into a slot machine and cranking the handle in hope. It a terrible look for the franchise. Shapiro has to be raising an eyebrow at this point.

I’ve picked him up like 4 times this year, but haven’t used him since the first two starts of the season. Kept hoping he’d show signs of turning it around but I don’t think it’s happening

My initial reaction is he's a spoiled brat. Do what you're asked to do to help the team - especially when you're clearly a below average defender at 3rd. But - I do think you have to understand the communication before you draw that conclusion. The team needs to articulate the plan to Devers and gain his support/respect. Then if they want to change the plan, they again need to speak with him and help him understand why it's changed. That's what leadership does. If they've done that and he still refuses and then runs his mouth to the media, then f*ck him!

If they've done that and he still refuses and then runs his mouth to the media, then f*ck him! Really seems like a bit of both. Chaim Bloom told Devers he was the 3B long term. Breslow made a decision to just not honour that non-contractual term, Then in spring they tell him to put his glove away and just be the DH. Maybe Devers' initial reaction to the Bregman signing being childish was part of that communication happening, like they felt they had to appease him in some way, but it's still pretty short-sighted to not have the guy on board as your backup 3B/1B.
