I wouldn't mind if they signed Varsho to a fair extension as well. He's young enough and provides stud CF defense and a league average bat, averaged about 3 fWAR per season for the last 3 seasons. Him, Kirk and Giminez could be a decent "up the middle" defensive trio to build around I think.

Calm down.

They're definitely nice pieces to have, but you don't expect your core to be players like Kirk, Gimenez and Varsho and expect to contend in the AL East lol.

I'm all for extending Varsho at the right price, like how they did with Kirk.

The Gimenez and Kirk tandem are great building blocks.

26.8 million on the books and you can expect close to 8 WAR out of them.

Building blocks?

Look I love Kirk and Gimenez, but if you're expecting them to be the star players on the Jays for the next five seasons or so, not going to look pretty. They're definitely solid players, but they're not core players.

Giminez very well may be morphing back into a star player in front of our eyes this season.

Wow I am getting tarred and feathered for using the term "building blocks" lmao

Call them whatever you'd like but they project for close to 8 WAR a season moving forward on team friendly contracts that have them locked up through their 20s.

These are 2 of the only long term commitments that we have on our books moving forward and as we build out the other ~90% of our payroll in the coming years it seemed apt to refer them as a good start on that process

If (big IF) Gimenez is a 120 wRC+ bat, you don't think he's a core player moving forward?

I think Giminez's contract is pretty friendly to both sides. If Gimenez blossoms back into a star the deal starts to look team friendly, but if he bounces back to 2023 level 4 FWAR it looks very fair to both parties.

That's what I said doofus. That I wouldn't mind if they extended Varsho to a fair price and that they could easily build the D around an elite CF/2B/C and probably average 8-12 fWAR per season from them as a group for several years as none of them are even 30 yet.

Sure if he returns to being a consistent 5-6 WAR player and shows a resemblance of the offensive player he was in 2022. Though it's only been 7 games so far.

Only has been 7 games, but I hope he can keep this level up and we see him return to his 2022 levels on a consistent basis. Same with Kirk.

Small sample sizes can do that.

Would be awesome if all 3 of them returned to their 2022 levels.

Sample size schmanple size, but Gimenez already projects for a 110 wRC+ by FGDC RoS. He's improved his projections by ~3-4 wRC+ around the board.

I can understand that the small sample size is making Gimenez look like something he's not - I agree, he's not going to be a 160lb version of Barry Bonds over the full season.

But to say that Gimenez isn't a potential building block?  The kid has already accumulated +15 WAR and he's 26 years old.  What the f*** qualifies as a building block to you!?  It's been amazing watching this kid in the field and you don't have to squint very hard to see him being a well above average shortstop in the near future.

Sorry to tar and feather you, but you really need to be tar and feathered.

Yeah it doesn't really have anything to do with sample size.

When you're the best defensive infielder in baseball it doesn't take a whole lot of offense to start racking up the WAR. If he merely hits his 50th percentile projections he's going to end up with 4 to 5 WAR this season.

fWAR through age 25:

Player A - 14.6

Player B - 16.9

fWAR from 2022-2024:

Player A - 12.7

Player B - 10.0

fWAR projection (by FGDC) in 2025:

Player A - 4.7

Player B - 4.2

Player A is signed for 5/96 guaranteed with a club option for $23M.

Player B wants $500M+ over 15 years. Player B is Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

If (big If) Gimenez's bat returns to a 115-125 wRC+ bat, building around Vlad, Kirk and Gimenez isn't a pretty good core.  If Varsho is extended at a reasonable price, that a good group of young, talented players.

Gimenez's bat being legit is a massive turn of events for the future of this organization.  I hope it's for real.

What's going to happen is Gimenez will end up hitting 107 wRC+ with 4 WAR like we are all predicting and then we will get tarred and feathered for calling him Babe Ruth when we did no such thing

Well Max thinks Gimenez is morphing into a star after 7 games so somebody has to temper these expectations

Notice how I used words like "may be" in my statement? That's far from a definitive statement, time to brush up on your reading skills a tad.

May be you should’ve used that language when referencing the torpedo bat

Why is that? The MLB torpedo bat currently being used was in fact invented a couple of years ago by a physicist employed by the Yankees.

This trade starts making more sense when you think about the SS situation past 2025. Plus if/when Bo gets injured, we have a legit everyday option. Would make even more sense if they decided to shift Bo to 2nd

He was a pretty terrible offensive player the entire Season. But yes his performance in the playoffs has more than made up for it
