jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2024 Posted October 3, 2024 Every trade incumbent has been a boss from Preller, dude gets ripped here plenty, but he's interesting and has had some magical trades, with balls to the wall. The nerds definitely have been ripping on Preller for a long time. He has weathered the storm down in San Diego despite some questionable moves, but things have been paying off this season. Imagine if they still had Blake Snell damn haha.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2024 Posted October 3, 2024 Wait what? The best org in the history of pro sports got swept again? They should fire the GM instantly. Don't think anyone said that on here haha. But yeah just stating some good things about the Orioles club during the season when having a general baseball discussion automatically makes you a fanboy for some reason. I recall the Rays love on this board was far way more cringe a couple years ago. Guys on here were kissing the floor their front office walked on.

Baltimore got Rekt, you failed.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2024 Posted October 3, 2024 Can you shut the f*** up, please. Baltimore got Rekt, you failed. What did I fail? And why am I considered an Orioles fanboy? For stating in some baseball discussion how they have a solid young team? Geez you can't even say anything positive about any of the 29 other MLB teams in this league or else you get bombarded by posters on here. Like heck even saying anything positive about the Royals or Tigers you get responses saying "their lineup sucks though" or "the Jays even have a better team" etc. Also, I'm happy the Royals won like I said earlier. Would collect $1200 if they win the World Series after making a $10 bet back in March. Only buying beers for Term if that happens. Leaving you out!

It will be interesting to see where they go. 2022 Jays did all the things the Orioles fans are demanding kind of reshaping the team into a more clutch, defense first, playoff worthy team and it did not work. Best move for Orioles may be to just do nothing. Trust their player development system, stay with what got them 101 and 91 wins. Don't panic over Adley. Don't panic over Holliday. Tell the f***ing Oriole-haters and the morons on Orioles-Nation to f*** themselves. Can Basallo catch? Saw on Twitter the Orioles morons want this dude catching next year. Thought he was a Delgado... will not be catching.

Who ever thought a player shaped like Kirk would be a plus defender? I don't really trust scouts much when it comes to minor league defensive projections.
Laika Community Moderator Posted October 3, 2024 Posted October 3, 2024 But yeah the honeymoon phase is now squarely over for the Orioles. They are still in a great spot long term because of their enviable core of Henderson-Rutschman-Cowser-Westburg but they blew it this year. I mean they traded for Trevor Rogers at the deadline, lol, then demoted him and didn't win a playoff game. And DFA'd their big FA reliever signing before the playoffs. lmaooooooooooooo shitbirds.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2024 Posted October 3, 2024 I was thinking the same thing, what's it matter in a short series? Brownie, haven't you lived by this mantra, what I agree with by the way? I do yes. Playoff baseball is always a crapshoot. HEAVY series favorites are only expected to win 60% of the time. Most series favorites are only expected to win 55% of the time. My views aren't very bold - it's just some fans are not smart.

Merrill is the only home grown player on their entire roster. But man - this looks like a team that could win the WS. Real shame that Kim is out for the year....I think they're going to need to get something out of Bogaerts or Cronenworth to go all the way. A lot of things have fallen their way, which could make them a team of destiny in 2024.

If either of Machado or Tatis go on a tear, that could sustain them all the way through. Merrill could carry them too, dude looks good right now smashing the ball
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2024 Posted October 3, 2024 Diamondbacks miss the playoffs Orioles fail to win a playoff game again AA and the Braves get swept Hopefully the Yankees are next

Smart - make team that can win 100 (skip 1st round most years and have bigger advantage in 2nd) Smart - average 90 wins for a 7 year stretch. Lot's of shots at the random lottery Dumb - reconfigure team to win same number but in different manner that is a winning "playoff team" recipe.

The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2024 Posted October 3, 2024 When was the last time a playoff team was as inexpensive as the Tigers? I see it mentioned that their entire 26-man wildcard roster only had a payroll of $18.8M

I see it mentioned that their entire 26-man wildcard roster only had a payroll of $18.8M I think Vierling is the only guy with any experience and he has like 12 games worth. I don't think it's "that" uncommon for a young team to get in that has little to no playoff experience though...especially with 3 WC teams now.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2024 Posted October 3, 2024 Jaysblue is quietly weeping in the corner. LOL what? I want the Royals to beat the Yankees. I couldn't care what happens to the Orioles. I have no attachment to them. Other than saying they have a solid young core and bright future, I guess I'm considered a huge fan boy. Yeah Braves weren't the same team with all their injuries this season. But actually looking forward to a Dodgers/Padres series which should be fun.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2024 Posted October 3, 2024 My picks for next round: Royals over Yankees Tigers over Guardians (toss up but will go with the hot Tigers) Padres over Dodgers Phillies over Brewers/Mets
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2024 Posted October 3, 2024 Orioles fans are legit hilarious right now. Melting down because they lost in the playoffs for the second straight year like they're some amazing juggernaut of a team that's incapable of losing because they've finally had a few seasons where they aren't dogshit. How do fans become so entitled so fast?

How do fans become so entitled so fast? Honestly I'd be pretty pissed off that they are squandering a couple of cheap years of outstanding young players. They should have been much more aggressive sooner than they have been. They already have a couple of key free agents and the young kids will start to get expensive in a couple of years. Windows can come and go very quickly especially in the American League East

Celebrate the success of being one of the best teams in the league with one of the best cores in place rather than whining like babies.

It's got to get to you at some point especially when you have a core like that and complacent ownership. I shed no tears for them though, their misery is my joy.

Apparently they figure firing the GM and president and all the people who brought in the most young talent they've seen in ... forever... needs an upgrade.

There are a lot of people who think the success of a FO is primarily measured in the # of playoff wins.
