Hope the losers from Loserville are happy. "Trade for the sake of trading expiring contracts". Anybody with half a brain could see this s*** a mile away. Should have just kept him. 95% chance Garcia pitching 10 innings before blowing out his arm is actually the winning side to this trade.

Regardless of return, what’s the point in keeping him?

Yeah f***ing morons wanted him traded to free up salary

Not one smart person suggested that

Yea the moron’s who wanted money invested into the offense because the team had no hope of hitting. Loved being pressed up against the cap because they couldn’t develop their own pitching so overpaid everyone.

Relievers are so volatile. Yimi looked terrible at times. Especially last year.

Clase reminds me of Derek Fisher for some reason

both played in the PCL, pretty sure Fisher at the time had an OPS of .900+, Clase right now is around .850

"Trade for the sake of trading expiring contracts".

I believe many were suggesting that getting under the salary cap penalty this year was a primary reason for trading expiring contracts so the team didn't accrue the multiple years exceeding the cap accumulative % penalty.

Are you looking forward to the Spring Training segment with Hazel Mae where she sits down with Jonatan to discuss his path to Toronto?

And she’ll have to mention Canada a billion times.

To win as many games as possible? Players should only be traded for potential impact talent. Not org bottom feeders.

Could be a legit reason, except the team will have a very hard to threading this needle with only tradeable expiring contracts.

They can’t make the playoffs this year. It is actually more beneficial to finish lower at this point for a better pick.

No, it's never better to lose more and tank your franchise value and fan base. Loser, socialist mindset created from the loser incentives baked into the sports leagues of the supposed hyper-capitalist American society. They should do what they do in European soccer leagues and jettison s***** teams to a lower league. Not reward them with higher draft picks. If I was commissioner, the #1 pick would go to the highest ranked team that missed the playoffs. If you lose 100, you lose your first round pick.

You know what's more beneficial? Actually getting a front office that knows how to draft and develop talent. When is the last time the Jays have drafted and developed a quality outfielder? I'll give you a hint, the team has won 95, lost 95 and done everything in between. Draft position hasn't mattered.

Ha, socialist mindset from me? I am one of the most results oriented poster on this board. I am the guy who rages on the, we made the playoffs eh, good try boys, we will get them next year. It is WS win or bust for me and that is my metric.

In the situation we are in, with the deadline on Tuesday, it is much better to get some assets for players who are either going to be FAs or that we are should cut bait with anyway.

I'm not sure if we are crossing signals here. I agree the FO is a failure at this point and they need to go. Selling off who they are selling so far is the best way to set the system up for when God willing a new GM takes over in October.

What course of action are you recommending at this deadline?? I am lost and you are normally a sensible poster.

With the Pearson trade it looks like the FO is willing to shed salary for future seasons as well.

Aren't they within 10-20 mill of being under the threshold?

I'm not so sure the players who have been moved out are of the quality that would bring back potential impact players. So far there has been a very good but not quite elite leverage reliever with injury concerns, a starting catcher in the midst of a 2 month long slump and having the worst season of his career, and a former top pitching prospect who missed half a decade due to injury and now that he's finally healthy can't reliably retire major league hitters.

I find a lot of the pieces we have coming back as relatively interesting as well. I don’t think any are 3+ win player ceilings but a lot of them seem like they could be solid league average to slightly above average players or role players on a good team which you need to supplement good talent.

I find Clase to offer an intriguing power/speed combination. 3 year ZiPS projections have him peaking at 2.5 FWAR in 2026 which would be a very good return for a rental reliever.

I actually don’t hate those ideas

I don't think the #1 pick to the highest non-playoff team makes sense, but I do think that all teams that miss the playoffs should be in the lottery with a (slight) advantage to the higher placed teams. I think it would vastly improve the quality of the game late in the year, but still allow teams to get a look at young players. I've thought that's a model that would make sense in our fantasy leagues too.

This definitely makes the most sense to me, I wonder how serious they've considered changing the draft order up to maintain competition on the field throughout the year.

It depends what the definition of ceiling is... Teoscar Hernandez had a ceiling of 4 WAR but did anybody recognize that at the time? Like in retrospect it is obvious that between Mckinney, Fischer and Teoscar that the ceiling was 4 for Teoscar and 0 for the other 2, but I remember posters comparing Mckinney to Justin Upton and calling Teoscar 'the mirage' (not the same ones).

It seems obvious to me you just collect these guys and randomly one will surprise, no one knows who... so the ceiling is the best of the 5 guys you collect, which might be a couple of 4 WAR seasons from one of the players obtained.

Couple of thoughts.

I think people understood that Teo had 4 WAR upside. He always had big time tools, it was just a matter of whether he could unlock them at the ML level. I think Derek Fisher had the same type of upside. He had great exit velo, sprint speed, etc. He had all the tools, but was never able to unlock and utilize them with any success in the majors. Randel Grichuk was similar, albeit his tools weren't quite as loud.

Players with this profile obviously are risk/reward types. There's typically a lot of doubt whether they'll reach their potential - otherwise, the cost/value to acquire them would be sky high. At first glance, it looks like we got a few toolsy players in these recent trades. There's probably a high probability they fail, but they have some upside and as you say, you only need 1 of those lottery tickets to "hit" really.

Yeah I donÂ’t mind this trade.

Clase is a decent lottery ticket. We were never gonna get back an elite prospect a few months of Yimi. But his 79 sb and 20 HRÂ’s last season with a pretty high obp is definitely intriguing. They say heÂ’s one of the fast minor leaguers, was the fast guy in Seatles organization by far. Even though heÂ’s not an elite fielder yet, with his speed and better routes to the ball he could be a decent defensive OF. If he can improve his hit took some he could be ok. I donÂ’t read too much into his small sample in the majors this year.

79 SBÂ’s 20hrÂ’s, not sure why people are not interested. Of course all but a few top prospects are favorites to be starters in the majors so itÂ’s always a gamble.

I apologize, typing on a phone and it seems to do something weird when I write on here. I think it is mostly with apostropheÂ’s,that it turns into A for some reason. I also tried to edit some other errors, meant to say fastest not fast for instance. But yeah trying to edit on this board on my phone does not go well so I just figured youÂ’d get the gist of what was meant lol

Yeah just skip the apostrophes and I don't think anyone will bat an eyelash.

Not a big deal, most people are able to get the gist of it

Yimi has a 6.00 ERA and 5.46 xFIP with Seattle, and is now on the IL with right elbow inflammation.

Unfortunately, the team was selling a compromised asset, other teams knew it, and it hurt the return.

They still did okay on the trade

Clase may never be a starter but nice cheap bench piece at least
