They're not punting next season, can't see it.

Yeah hopefully not. Still, they can't afford to punt the offseason and keep the status quo. Need to get creative and make some big moves. Whether it's Atkins or another GM.

Is a core for 2025 that bad if it consists of Gausman, Berrios, Bassitt, Springer, Varsho, Vlad, Bo, Romano and the Buffalo contingent?

Yes lol

Relative to the competition yes.

Another year older for some of those guys and are you going to get the past 3 months of Springer or the past 16 days. What kinda Bo will you get, Varsho in CF is fine, but he is inconsistent offensively.

Guasman with two pitches getting older in the AL East…. Romano who knows what you will get coming off surgery and there were some issues prior to surgery.

With Vlad will you have Arreaz or Judge.. We have had that core for a while now. I don’t see why it would be any different.

Do you know that Vlad has not hit a HR in the month of July. Even with that week in June where he hit 5 hrs, he is still on pace for a 20hr maybe 22 or 23 HR season…

I highly doubt it will be Atkins, lol. He's a dead man walking and they certainly won't punt the offseason whatever that means?

Yes, especially in the AL East. Vlad and Bo would have to have monster FA years. The rotation would have to stay healthy and effective despite age (Gausman 34, Bassitt 36) and issues with stuff/underlying numbers (Berrios). The pen is highly volatile to begin with, but will be losing Garcia, and there's questions about health with Romano. Springer will be one year older. Varsho has an 87 wRC+ in his last 900 plate appearances and will be 29 next season.

I mean, I guess it's possible with the extra WC spot and if they have a great off season (plus internal development), but that's asking a lot.

I heard on MLB Network Radio this week that the Jays and Guerrero are now close dollar figure wise on an extension but it likely wouldn't be done until the off season.

I’ve said before I think a Vlad extension eventually gets done. Probably will be an ownership call and might be for a term/dollar amount that will make people squirm but I think it happens. Bichette is the one who seems mentally checked out, and with a skill set not worth a long term deal but if they are fine with losing him for nothing after next season or being in this same position next July, then it is what it is. As long as he’s not extended for big years/dollars, that’s all that matters in the end.

Yeah, I mean at absolute worst the Jays get a comp pick... i think lot depends on how well he plays the rest of the season on the future. I think a ton also depends on the Atkins situation and whether his employment survives much longer.

I really find it odd that Atkins is still around. I thought the master plan was to bring in Click to get to know the org so they could jettison Atkins seamlessly even if it had to happen mid-season... What do I know I guess.

If I recall correctly Click is in charge of overall strategy for the organization. Based on what has happened in the team's major league and minor league teams this season I'm not so sure he's deserving of a promotion.

I don’t think anything will happen until the offseason. Who handles the deadline moves I’m not sure, but I doubt they’re about to cut ties before the draft or even the deadline

Big C has already told us he's been muzzled, and I believe him and his source. Likely Tiedemann/Click and their resources with a final say by Shapiro. The BOD has spoken.

That’s very interesting, so basically Atkins is likely gone after the season then??

Not to get political, but y'all should check out the breaking news. Or the off topic thread.

Connor gonna have a field day with this one

s*** can always change, things happen, but it sounds a lot like some decisions are all but made. Spending all this money to upgrade the Dome (and yes, I still call it the "Dome") and then making such a bad team cannot be acceptable to Rogers & friends.

The Dodgers had hoped May would help stabilize a pitching staff bedeviled by injuries. Among those currently joining May on the injured list: starters Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Walker Buehler, Clayton Kershaw and Emmet Sheehan, and relievers Brusdar Graterol, Joe Kelly and Ryan Brasier. Right-hander Tyler Glasnow is on the IL but expected to return soon, while Bobby Miller -- a standout rookie last season -- was sent this week to Triple-A and star Shohei Ohtani isn't pitching this season following reconstructive elbow surgery.

Kikuchi to the Dodgers seems inevitable.
