mphenhef Verified Member Posted May 3, 2024 Posted May 3, 2024 He strikes me as a guy who would make an excellent commissioner; although I suppose it wouldn't be too difficult to be better than Selig or Manfred. You know if Shapiro took over the Rays and A's stadium situations would have been sorted far sooner. Also, the all star game I believe is his next project/goal with the Jays.

Omar Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2024 Posted May 3, 2024 Rosenthal is discussing this very issue in his latest Rosenthal gets his insights on the comings and goings of the Blue Jays from this message board. I wonder what his profile name is?
tazsub3 Verified Member Posted May 4, 2024 Posted May 4, 2024 LOL - good point. You guys hate Shatkins? Wait until Kenny Williams is running this team. Why dont we wait till AA , a local boy that built a powerhouse in the braves and already won a ws is running the team.... oh wait he was and the genius of shapiro and dhis ego let him go
mikepelfrey Verified Member Posted May 5, 2024 Posted May 5, 2024 (edited) one of the most brilliant things Larry Dolan ever did was covincing Blue Jays Ownership to hire Shapiro. the fans in cleveland were clamoring to get rid of him and his Right Hand man Atkins. Dolan not only found a way to get the fans off his back but also to Keep the Jays from hiring one of the bright young minds of the sport Alex Anthopoulos, who was already in the building. Dolan Also Knew that Chris Antonetti one of the indians own bright minds was negotiating With the Cardinals to become their new GM.One can only imagine where the Jays would be If Gillick wasnt going to Retire and Rogers ownership group wasnt Played for Suckers. dolan not only Kept his guy from going, he kept his fans happy and saddled one of his rivals with a guy was going to fire Edited May 5, 2024 by mikepelfrey

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted May 5, 2024 Posted May 5, 2024 Also, the all star game I believe is his next project/goal with the Jays. Yeah I could see him pushing hard to have an All-Star game here with the new renovations and everything. I think Shapiro definitely has his sites on being a commissioner down the road.

Manfred is horrible and I dont think anyone would disagree with that, but if anyone could be worse, Shapiro would find a way..... like his first move would be to contract the league back to 12 teams in each league......bye bye Jays Shapiro is the Donald Trump of Baseball
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted May 5, 2024 Posted May 5, 2024 We need a gif of a Simpson-animated version of Atkins with Nelson Muntz using his hands to repeatedly slam a window down on his head while he's saying "stop slamming a window on yourself".

I definitely don't see it being the difference of him wanting to stay here or not. IIRC Shapiro interviewed with an NFL team even when he was employed by the Blue Jays in his first couple of years here. People around here like to think the Blue Jays is one of the best jobs blah blah when in reality there are much bigger jobs out there. And if the people in the city don't like you and complain about you, why would you really want to stay?
