lmao, Jays were interested in Bellinger but couldn't beat Cody Poteet?

Sounds like the Cubs wanted the Yanks to take the entire contract (minus the buyout). Jays probably weren't interested in paying full pop.

Bellinger 47.5/2 + Cody Poteet or Teo 4/85 + compensation pick.

Not gonna lie, the Yankees made out better than I initially thought if you compare it to signing Teo/Satandar to their "expected" deals.

I’ll reserve judgment until I see the eventual OF solution. But the 2/48 or whatever that NY is paying Bellinger seems preferable to signing one of the remaking FA OFs. Maybe Teo actually comes in at 3/63 and it works out fine.

It's hard to say that we got outbid for Bellinger when it was a pure salary dump. Obviously they didn't value him at his current contract -5 million. I'm ok with that if they have another solution in mind and execute it.

I mean there's a decent probability that Teo is significantly better than Belly too.

I’m wondering what Teo’s market actually is at this point. The Yankees are likely out on him, and the Dodgers don’t need him. You would think that opens things up for the Jays but Atkins has spent 2 years loading up on defense and guys who don’t strike out, which Teo is basically the opposite of (and he was the first player traded post-2022 to usher in this new and exciting run prevention model they’ve had since). I’d actually be somewhat surprised if he signs with the Jays factoring all that in, but maybe Atkins realizes he has all the defense he can get and now needs to bend a bit to add power.

This is a no-brainer. Why is still unsigned? Atkins must still be brainstorming ways for this to become a possibility.

lol... some Gold Jerry's, all over the forum today.

If this is the case then half the league is already offering him this price and he's holding out for a desperate team looking for power (e.g. Toronto Blue Jays) to offer him a 4th of 5th year. Something like 4/90 or 5/100-110 to keep the tax hit AAV low since apparently that's what every team cares about these days.

The Dodgers are probably offering "4/100" with deferrals that make it closer to a 4/80 deal and Teoscar is being smart to hold out for more present value money.

Yes, the original Dodger rumour was 4/96 with deferrals, I assume the Jays need to go 4/100 here.

Glad we keep helping other teams/players/agents out yet without actually acquiring anyone impactful ourselves! Feels great!!!

What does Heyman even mean "helped" in this context? At least they're trying, dude. It sure suxxx ending up a bridesmaid, they likely didn't want to spend that much money on Belly as he's a shell of his former self. They can have him for that salary dump.

When I say Atkins is a beta, I don't just mean how he is perceived by free agents or other GMs. Internal organizational disarray is the biggest sign and biggest hurdle to the Jays being a success. People brought up Guerrero's s***** baserunning and his refusal to change. That is on a nerd like Atkins who is too cowardly to set the cultural standard where s*** like that isn't tolerated. We all know his foot speed is his foot speed. Can't do much with that. The boneheadedness is unacceptable. Particularly with a guy who thinks he's worth $400 million or whatever.

Is this you on twitter, bro?

Would you take on that contract for Belly? They likely offered some Buffalo Boys and less money, they can have him, he suxxxx at that $$$

Agreed.

The fact that Belli can also play 1b is something that the Yankees like vs Teo. I think Santander can also play 1b and is a switch hitter, but canÂ’t play CF.

I don't think you want Bellinger playing 1B with his current offensive output. He was already around the league average 1B production last year, and the Statcast/xwOBA numbers suggest even that was a mirage. His defense has also fallen off in the outfield, but you gotta play him there otherwise his value will tank even more.

The Yankees didn’t acquire him to be their primary 1b. However, the roster flexibility is something that appeals to them. The Yankees are not sure if Dominguez is ready to play a full time CF yet. They will shift Judge to RF and start Bellinger in CF.

When Dominguez shows he is ready, the Yankees will have Bellinger play LF and spot starts at 1b.

Christian Walker would be perfect for the Yankees in that stadium. Regardless, the positional flexibility with Bellinger is something that works for the Yankees vs remaining OF FAs.

Bellinger just makes more sense for the Yankees on many levels. He's well suited for the short porch in right field, can man 1B/CF as needed as it moves Judge to right field where he's more suited and the Yankees don't have a firmly entrenched 1B starter, and the Yankees have a lot more financial wiggle room and can spend more accordingly betting on an offensive bounceback.

What about Christian Walker as a right handed hitter who mostly pulls his flyballs would make him especially more suited to Yankee Stadium?

Except for the fact that he wilted under the bright lights of LA

He could be a disaster in the Big Apple

Yea, my bad, I thought he was a LHH for some reason. Regardless, his gold glove level D and power would be a good add for the Yankees.

Depending on the alternative, maybe. I pay Belly 2/48 before Santander 5/100 or Teo 4/90 or whatever. But I'd rather have Teo at 3/63. Depends on what the team ends up doing for LF.

Fair enough I guess, but he's gone, I'd rather Teo all day.

Meh, Bellinger has the biggest pumpkin risk of the group. He was already worse than both, defense has been declining, exit velos cratering. Shortest commitment helps but the likeliest of the group to just provide negative value straight up. I have more faith in Santander and Teo to be boring 2 WAR guys with big power and bad defense throughout the duration of most of their contracts.
