jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 Same as last year probably. Spread $40M or whatever across four positions, just try to do it better than last time. It's going to suck and it's not going to work. Yup. Really disappointing.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 Rest of Blue Jays offseason: - Mark Canha (1 year, $8M) - Josh Bell (1 year, $8M) - Martin Perez (1 year, $7M) - Carlos Estevez (2 year, $20M) - Josh Rojas (1 year, $7.5M) $40M spent across all 5 positions!
itaos Verified Member Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 He tried that last year and failed... it isn't going to work magically this year lol. We can win another Team Gold Glove and still suck while being completely unwatchable. It isn't looking good. We know it, he knows it.
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 I could see Profar getting a one year prove it deal tbh
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 2023 All star Austin Hays please
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 So we're down to four actual impact bats left? Bregman, Alonso, Santander, Profar? I wouldn't even lump Profar in that mix. 3 impact bats and one wildcard.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 Who even would still be in the market for Bregman other than us? Yankees? Nationals.
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 Profar is the cutoff though. Below him it's guys like Verdugo, Winker, Jorge Polanco... 1 WAR players.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 Nationals. Yup dark horse destination

saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 The Dbacks outta nowhere land a big fish Not completely out of nowhere. The scored the most runs in the league. The problem is, no one believes in our team. We have no young stars coming up, although I think people might be overlooking Francis who could be quite good. Still, our farm isn't very good. We're losing our 2 stars at the end of this year. Our future is murky. Free agents want money, but they also want a chance to win. I'm not sure where the Jays go from here. I could actually see Santander signing with the Orioles. I doubt we overpay for Alonzo, but we may as well write a best wishes with the Mets card for Vlad if we do. Best guesses. We sign Kim and JD Davis.

I didn’t which is what I mean by “out of nowhere”
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 I guess it makes sense. Burnes lives in Arizona. The real hilarity is the Orioles. They’re actually wasting another year of their contention window this year.
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 So the remaining rotation options for possible SP2 production are: Flaherty Sign an old **** like Scherzer or Verlander and pray Cease (trade) Castillo (trade) Can probably eliminate the second option because the team blows and the last two options because there’s so little to trade. Brazing myself for a Jose Quintana signing

BTS Community Moderator Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 I wonder how many players have had their decision impacted by the fact that the GM is Ross Atkins. Imagine trying to work out a deal with this talking Linked-In page. I think we’re at like half a dozen Jays players who have openly shown contempt for him now? Dude is a ****ing loser.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 Dodgers with the estimated $352 million LTP So just 80 or so mil in tax owed. 50 mil on top of that for the posting fee for Sasaki. To work the CBA luxury tax rules they pay outsized bonuses. Snell got 52 mil. Teo got 23. The dodgers have already spent more money before the season starts in signing bonuses than some teams will spend on payroll all year..lol

Coming into the offseason we needed 2 to 3 bats. We traded a bat away so we need 3 to 4 bats..lol. Like our next move should be for some offense. Our funds are running low. I actually would be happy to sign JD Martinez. He didn't have a normal training camp and his underlying numbers still look pretty good. It's hail mary time. Time to start chucking it deep.

At least JDM might run into 25-30 HR's if he's healthy and fresh.

He was very solid for the first 5 months or so until he hit a rough sled in the last month of the season. A lot of that appeared to be related to bad luck as he drastically underperformed his expected statistics.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 Heyman says Jays offered most money. You would think Atkins would realize at this point that it isn’t just about money. No player wants to lock into 5+ years when none of the core is signed long term. Trapping themselves into mediocrity isn’t the goal when the money is similar.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 "One of the best players who was non-tendered this offseason, Austin Hays struggled after going from the Orioles to the Phillies at the trade deadline, but he has a solid track record of production. He posted a 109 OPS+ and averaged 32 doubles, 18 home runs, 66 RBI and 2.7 WAR in the three years leading up to the 2024 campaign, and he was an All-Star in 2023. He hit .354/.405/.537 in 90 plate appearances against left-handed pitching in 2024, and he has a .800 OPS for his career against southpaws, so if nothing else, he holds significant platoon appeal." There's so few bats left on the market who have that kind of upside. He's still fairly young, his 2024 was explainable by serious illness and he fields a position (LF) we have open. It seems like a no brainer at this point, likely one of the cheapest potential sources of above average offense.
