Michael Lorenzen wants to be a 2-way player.

 

I never even knew he could hit but I went and looked and he had a .710 OPS as a hitter prior to the universal DH.

 

He's probably not good enough at either hitting or pitching to mess around with it and get him 2-way player status.

 

I think the idea is that a non-playoff team signs him, gives him 20 starts at DH or OF to allow him to not be subject to pitcher limitations for the rest of 2025 and 2026, and then trades him to a contender.

 

The problem is that Lorenzon wouldn’t make most teams’ playoff roster

f*** it, play Vlad at 3rd fulltime and sign Alonso+Santander. The D won’t be pretty but the bombs will be glorious.

 

Coincidentally, he just recently said that Alonso is close to re-signing with the Mets.

I kind of just want the team to sign Alonso given the apparently depressed 1B market. Mets and Yankees will be out. Dodgers will be out.

Apparently as part of the signing pitch to Soto, Cohen told him he promises to add more big bats to the lineup and not just settle on their laurels.

 

I was pretty sure Alonso was coming back and if not him, then at least one of the remaining big bats.

Yeah - when Alonso hit the big HR in the playoffs, I figured the Mets would find a way to keep him long term. He's pretty damn popular for the Mets.
