Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 Just upgrade the damn roster however possible. Screw the babel about "payroll can increase for a unique player" and then start listing all the second tier guys as "unique" after the first tier guys are off the board lol. Lol so true Run-of-the-mill free agent OF who projects for 2.5 WAR. "He's a unique player that that we can increase payroll for."
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 I don't think it's that bad of a return for the White Sox aside from the fact that the centerpiece is a f***ing catcher lol. In a vacuum, they received a top 50 prospect in Teel, and ~backend top 100 spect in Montgomery who was picked 12th overall at the most recent draft, a no-power bat to ball guy in Meidroth who is MLB ready and projects decently, and a AA power arm with bad control. Probably something like a 55 FV, 50 FV, 40+ FV and a 40 FV. If Teel was any other non 1B position this would look like reasonable value for Chicago for two years of Crochet. BA has them as 2 55's a 50 and a 45, 4/6/8 and 15 in their top 30. It isn't bad at all.

"He's a unique player that that we can increase payroll for." It's f***ing absurd. Like yeah, I see how Ohtani is a unique investment. And even Soto is a mid-prime future inner circle HoFer, so I could see him being a special case too. But we don't need Rogers dictating that payroll can only go up by 20M if it's spent specifically on Anthony Santander. At that point you don't even trust the FO, so just fire them.

If the reports are true that the front office had permission to bid higher on Soto and wouldn't, then it might make some sense. Perhaps this is ownership's way of prodding the front office into actually trying to land one or two of the bats we need rather than being stuck on whatever strict valuation they're using.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 Not saying we are going to sign Burnes by any stretch but I'm not sure how much stock we should put into a CamTheRedSoxFan's take on a Bob Nightengale report on something Scott Boras told him. I checked Bob's page, he says nothing of the sort, lol.

BTS Community Moderator Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 Not sure if this tidbit had already been posted Apparently it’s not as insignificant as it sounds. Yankee Stadium suites go for 1M+ a year, and they’d be taxed on it via the CBT. So could be like a 30M+ concession from the team over the life of the contract.

Also limited space and some politics there so tough spot for the Yankees and a detrimental precedent for the Mets to set, now Pete Alonso is going to want a suite lol

Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 Bombshell report about Mike Elias refusing to spend money that Orioles ownership is greenlighting. Interesting if this is true... I assume Elias thinks the current market is nuts so dumb to get involved. And it is nuts but the only thing that will ever stop it is a financial crisis. Today's nutty contract are tomorrow's good deals because everything just keeps going up. Nothing will ever stop it and you are damn fool Elias for not buying, buying buying right now while the prices are cheap. NVIDIA stock price is 137 and will be 1500 in 3 years. Bitcoin is 100,000 and will be 800,000 in 4 years Canadian average house price is 850,000 and will be 2.65 million in 4 years Top MLB contract is 760 million, or 50 million a year and will by 1.8 billion, 90 million a year in 3 years If Elias thinks that any price can every go down, that any even minor recession can happen he is no genius... Elias is dumb, the smart people are grabbing everything they can before it goes up even more. I am sorry for claiming he was genius. Just another fool who thinks he can call the market. Prices go up. Only up. THere is no down.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 ESPN’s Jorge Castillo reports the Yankees and Jonathan Loáisiga have agreed to a one-year contract with a team option for 2026. Loáisiga returns to New York where he’s been a key component of the Yankees’ relief mix since breaking into the majors back in 2018. The 30-year-old righty, who holds a strong 3.44 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 207/72 K/BB ratio across 219 2/3 innings (163 appearances) at the highest level, underwent elbow surgery back in April to address a right flexor strain and made just three appearances last season. He’s expected to be ready to contribute at some point in the early stages of next year.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 New York Post’s Jon Heyman reported that a Cody Bellinger trade to the Yankees is experiencing a hang-up due to money. According to Heyman, the Yankees are interested in adding Bellinger as their starting first baseman with the knowledge that his center field defense would also give them an insurance policy in case rookie Jasson Dominguez isn’t ready. However, the Cubs are “asking the Yankees to take on nearly the full $52.5M Bellinger’s due over the next couple years, and the Yankees are expecting more cash coming back.” The Yankees can certainly take on that level of contract, but with Christian Walker and Pete Alonso also still free agents, it’s possible that New York doesn’t feel the need to give up assets and take on all of Bellinger’s salary until they’re sure he’s the best and most realistic option for them.

Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 Recruiting Vlad for the Dodgers. That is more likely at this stage. Vlad will replace Muncy at 3B next year and Freeman at 1B once he retires lol.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 4/100 I suppose if we have to outbid multiple teams in this market that's prob about what it takes isn't it.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 I suppose if we have to outbid multiple teams in this market that's prob about what it takes isn't it. Well, the earlier report about the Dodgers offering 4/96 with deferrals, I'm thinking 4/100 minimum to land him.
