I'd be curious what the %'s say about putting the tying run on first and bringing the winning run to the plate. That's historically been a baseball "no-no", but obviously with the batter being Judge, that would skew the %'s a lot (getting close to how it would have been skewed back in the day with Bonds).

Right Judge is an anomaly so whatever the #’s is almost irrelevant. With a base open I wouldn’t be pitching to the best hitter and power hitter in the world but that’s just me, especially when the next guy is Austin Wells

I don’t think it would have been an egregious move to walk Judge in that spot. Like imagine if you had to face 2021 Vlad when 2024 Kirk was on deck. It wouldn’t be a move I’d make in a general sense but a MVP vs a .600 OPS guy on deck is a no brainer. If it fails then it fails.

Still curious what the #'s say. I just posted this in another thread, but I do find it odd that Judge doesn't receive ANYWHERE near the same treatment Bonds did throughout his career. Bonds was intentionally walked more in 1 season then Judge will be his entire career. I wonder if that's a reflection of the stats proving that intentionally walking someone is worse than facing them? Just a thought.

Not really scientific but there was 750 intentional walks in the American League in 1993, 500 or so in 2003, 443 in 2013 and 250 in 2023. Probably a trend.

I think I read once that walking people is bad in almost every conceivable situation. Obviously sometimes it makes sense. runner on second tie game 9th inning and stuff.

I still remember them intentionally walking Bonds with the bases loaded rather than facing him.

Only up by 2 runs too IIRC. The IBB brought the game within 1. Balls of steel from Showalter there

I suspect the #'s suggested that Showalter got lucky. Call that balls of steel, but that probably backfires more than it works....even though he can save face afterwards by saying "if we're going to lose, it won't be Bonds who beats us" and most would just nod their head and agree.

River Ryan gets the call.

There is no other organization like it

Why do you say that? The Dodgers, who's pitching is all essentially dead, called up a 25 year old starter from AAA? Seems rather normal to me.

DFA'd Paxton to call up Ryan.

Good deal for Paxton too as his contract gave him a bunch of bonuses for games started... and 18 starts was the highest # needed to max out. He started exactly 18 games. 13 Million bucks for 0.4 bWAR

Injuries are also normal.

Based on homegrown WAR the past few years they are at the top of the league, I posted 2019 below you can google the rest of the years. Methodology used is included in the link below.

Dodgers whiffed on a few FA signings this year. Happens to even the best.

Ah - sorry. I thought you were suggesting it was some aggressive move or something. You're just saying the Dodgers are good, which is true. Can he stay healthy though? That org is on a pretty awful run for that right now.

Francisco Lindor is an interesting case re: HoF candidacy. Has now eclipsed 50 career WAR and is having a third straight elite season following a couple of downturn years. Still only 30 years old as well so he's got some miles left on the odometer.

Outstanding defensive shortstop and a great hitter for a middle infielder, 30-30 club member, etc.

Most underrated player in baseball though

Hasn't even made the All Star game since 2019. Not kidding!

Likely cause he has slow starts, he's pretty awesome though.

Robbie Ray and Tyler Glasnow come off the IL to face one another, Ray's long awaited debut. Also McDermott the O's #6 spect pitches tonight

Oops... my bad JH.
