Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2024 Posted March 12, 2024 Huh, I don't even think Espy makes the squad, either traded or optioned. Many people are saying this
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2024 Posted March 12, 2024 We are so far past the Clement > Espinal debate that we are now onto Clement > JD Davis. In fact, we are even into Clement > IKF territory now. I'm not saying we are there yet, but it's possible, and that would mean that Clement is our starting 3B.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 12, 2024 Posted March 12, 2024 Bad day for Gavin Lux. Moved from SS to 2B. Rust from missing time is showing. In one game today he missed a routine pop-up, made a throwing error, and went 0-3 including being struck out on a pitch clock violation.

I’ll raise you and say Clement > Schneider. Too far?

I feel like every time I watch Gavin Lux play defense he either botches a routine play or does something incredibly lazy/stupid. Dude has the baseball IQ of a stack of bricks.

He looks like he completely forgot how to play baseball.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2024 Posted March 12, 2024 Pretty sure that Espinal is on the outside looking in right now. He has an option and Clement doesn't and Clement has made himself interesting enough that they aren't going to lose him for nothing just so they can keep Espinal on the big league team. Yeah, optioning Espinal and keeping Clement seems like the most logical way to go, and since DS is the only one of the bench options who they seem to be playing in the OF, I feel like demoting him isn't happening. Maybe they keep Espinal as well and let Vogelbach go while Votto gets reps in AAA, but there's really no need for Clement and Espinal on the same roster.

Idk man I don’t see it. If Espy isn’t traded he makes the team. And im saying if its him and Clement on the team, Espy will be getting more playtime. Im hoping he’s traded

He looks absolutely awful on almost every play.

Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2024 Posted March 12, 2024 Probables have been named for the series in Seoul... Game 1: Darvish and Glasnow Game 2: Musgrove and Yamamoto
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2024 Posted March 12, 2024 Probables have been named for the series in Seoul... Game 1: Darvish and Glasnow Game 2: Musgrove and Yamamoto Crazy the Dodgers added a 1-2 at the top of their rotation in addition to the best player in baseball in a single offseason. In 2025 the Ohtani-Yamamoto-Glasnow-Buehler-Miller/Ryan? rotation will be nasty.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2024 Posted March 12, 2024 Maybe LA needs to trade for Espinal... Sounds good to me. We fleeced the pants off of them for Mitch White and Alex the Jesus. Let's do it again.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2024 Posted March 12, 2024 Espinal for Nick Frasso seems fair Personally I’d like to aim higher than a middle relief “prospect” in his mid 20s who is made of glass. Pass.

BTS Community Moderator Posted March 12, 2024 Posted March 12, 2024 The Athletic article makes it seem like the Giants weren't really interested in settling with Davis before the hearing. The current rules provide a poorly-conceived set of incentives . At issue will be how actively the Giants exploited those rules, and how much of it might have been premeditated. The Giants recently defaulted to what has become an industry-wide “file-and-trial” policy among teams in which all negotiations stop after the deadline for clubs and players to exchange salary figures to be presented at a hearing. The policy is meant to be a deterrent to negotiations reaching the hearing stage, Zaidi said. Davis said last month that he would have happily accepted the Giants’ filing figure of $6.55 million prior to the hearing. But the team was not willing to reopen negotiations after the exchange. Zaidi said Monday that the Giants “negotiate all our arbitration cases in good faith” and that Davis could have accepted the club’s offer prior to the exchange of figures. Davis’ agent, Matt Hannaford, disputed that characterization. Hannaford said the Giants made one offer to Davis that GM Pete Putila sent in a text message that arrived one hour before the filing deadline. The club’s offer was for “hundreds of thousands” less than what the team filed at, Hannaford said. “In my 22 years in the business I’ve never seen a club in arbitration make their one and only offer less than an hour before the exchange deadline that ended up hundreds of thousands of dollars below their filing number,” Hannaford said. “The way the Giants negotiated gave J.D. no choice but to go to a hearing, which he did, and which we won.”
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 12, 2024 Posted March 12, 2024 He really got f***ed. Hopefully some team gives him like $5M so he's close to breakeven.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2024 Posted March 12, 2024 We need young outfielders I was sort of hoping we would claim Canaan Smith-Njigba when he was on waivers (twice) but unsure if he ever got to us on the waiver priority, having been claimed both times. Solid minor league numbers and an intriguing power/speed/plate discipline profile, plus an option remaining. If another dude along those lines gets waived off a 40 man in the coming days, hopefully we jump on it.
BTS Community Moderator Posted March 12, 2024 Posted March 12, 2024 I’m guessing not great news on Cole
