G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 11, 2024 Posted March 11, 2024 Yankees are so dependant on Cole and Judge it's kind of crazy
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2024 Posted March 11, 2024 Gerrit Cole... MRI on his elbow... Scott Boras already called 5 times this AM.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2024 Posted March 11, 2024 Scott Boros already called 5 times this AM. This is exactly the scenario that Boras/Snell were hoping for.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2024 Posted March 11, 2024 Cole said it's the same pain/feeling after pitching 100 pitches+ late in a season.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2024 Posted March 11, 2024 The words you never like hearing ....... Unless it's an opposition ace level starter of course.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 11, 2024 Posted March 11, 2024 Cole said it's the same pain/feeling after pitching 100 pitches+ late in a season. That's not really good

Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2024 Posted March 11, 2024 Cole said it's the same pain/feeling after pitching 100 pitches+ late in a season. Is it barking?
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2024 Posted March 11, 2024 Is it barking? Some Icy Hot will fix it.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 11, 2024 Posted March 11, 2024 Uh oh . The Yankees do not expect to have a prognosis for Gerrit Cole today, and possibly not tomorrow either, according to Aaron Boone. There will be multiple opinions given regarding his course of treatment
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2024 Posted March 11, 2024 Couldn’t happen to a better guy
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2024 Posted March 11, 2024 Imagine lol. Dude pitches his arm off, winning the cy young in a year the Yanks don’t even make the playoffs. Then he misses the next season with elbow-itis
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2024 Posted March 11, 2024 Couldn’t happen to a better guy I mean, he's a bit of a weirdo and a dick at times but certainly not a bad enough personality that I wish this kind of thing to happen to him. I'm happy at the prospect of the Yankees not being able to use his services for a long time this season, but this is a guy well underway to a Hall of Fame career, and is a true ace/workhorse in an era where those types have significantly diminished, which this potential injury could jeopardize. If this happened to him on any other team outside the division I'd be pretty devastated from a baseball point of view.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2024 Posted March 11, 2024 Assuming he needs TJS, was only a matter of time. Best scenario is the Yanks sign Snell and he too needs TJS be mid-season.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2024 Posted March 11, 2024 Aaron Judge is not going to last in CF
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 11, 2024 Posted March 11, 2024 Can you imagine if they start the season without Judge *AND* Cole? Holy s***
glory Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2024 Posted March 11, 2024 Aaron Judge is not going to last in CF I don’t understand why they think Judge playing CF is a good idea to begin with. They have Grisham who is a 2 WAR player just with defense alone so that seems like a no brainer to put him in CF and work around Stanton’s existence (maybe platoon him with Verdugo).

glory Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2024 Posted March 11, 2024 JD Davis wasn’t claimed so he was released.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 11, 2024 Posted March 11, 2024 JD Davis wasn’t claimed so he was released. damn heard this on a podcast but Matt Chapman took JD Davis' job back in college too. Bumped him to 1B. this time he bumps him off the Giants...
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2024 Posted March 11, 2024 JD Davis wasn’t claimed so he was released. Now that he's a FA it seems like it's even less of a possibility that he ends up in TO. He'd have to battle with the island of misfit toys for playing time at 3B and Turner at DH. Vlad is locked in at 1B and Danny Burgers and Canadian Hero Joey Votto also loom as possible bench bats. We also have 2 catchers who are good enough to DH. Seems like there are other teams out there who could give him better opportunities. I suppose if the Jays really like him they could solve all of the playing time problems by telling him that he'd be the starting 3B. But given that he was just available for basically free my guess is that the Jays don't really want him.

His salary for the expected production should have gotten him claimed even this late into the preseason.

Based on the stats available to us fans, his bat looks good and the defense rates good enough. My guess is his defense is actually atrocious and that the positive metrics he got last year were a blip. So he's basically a 1B who projects for a slightly above average bat.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 11, 2024 Posted March 11, 2024 Giolito having elbow surgery tomorrow apparently He had TJS in 2012 too I guess
BTS Community Moderator Posted March 11, 2024 Posted March 11, 2024 This seems sloppy Davis won an arbitration hearing over the Giants earlier in the offseason, which awarded him a $6.9MM salary. However, under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement, that sum isn’t fully guaranteed until Opening Day. By cutting him now, the Giants could potentially only owe him 30 days of termination pay — about $1.11MM. The CBA, however, explicitly states that this applies to players who have “failed to exhibit sufficient skill or competitive ability.”
