RustyTrombone Verified Member Posted February 8, 2024 Posted February 8, 2024 I'd say if there was no dark cloud of the BS over him, then yes for sure. But the guaranteed PR nightmare is a valid reason not to sign a guy without it crossing into collusion territory. It would be a very Tampa move to grab him though. Nobody watches their games anyway and it would only become a thing for visiting teams media on the road which could be shut down rather quickly with a few interviews demonstrating even the tiniest amount of admission that he understands why he is a PR nightmare and accepts even the tiniest shred of responsibility for his situation. Not guilt....responsibility. He does that and he's signed tomorrow. Well apparently when the Dodgers FO flew out to meet him in Arizona before the 2023 season after he had been cleared of any wrong doing they went with the intention to invite him back to the team but Bauer didnt show any remorse or admission of responsibility in the meeting and the Dodgers brass decided then and there to release him. Those are the rumours atleast.

I’m sure he’s not going to put himself in any sort of situation like that, knowing what’s at stake. He’s blackballed for sure.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2024 Posted February 8, 2024 MLB owners are holding tight and protecting the brand on these things clearly. There would be at least one team that would break ranks and sign him. Even a rebuilding team, as they would take the initial bad PR, but Bauer would be “washed” and ready to ready to ship at the deadline.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2024 Posted February 8, 2024 Detroit? Blue collar city. Fans wouldn’t give a s***. Would be a nice piece for a team that wants to be something they’re not, in terms of competing. Lots of teams like that
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2024 Posted February 8, 2024 Hypothetically, if Franco is found guilty, serves 3 years and released, and somehow gets back into the USA, he's 26 yrs old approx. Would a team sign him? I think not, for the exact same reasons - PR hit and risk of further incident.

Bauer has a career-long history of antisocial behaviour. Long before any of this s***, he was being traded by teams that thought he was uncoachable, and getting into fights or disagreements with coaches and other players. if anything, he has a pattern of being a ******** so should be seen as more likely to be a ******** again!

Probably not even the Mexican league would want to be associated with a known and guilty pedophile. Very different from Bauers situation where he was not found guilty of anything. You would think a team desperate enough for pitching who DGAF about the retarded public outcry would sign him.
Gen.Disarray Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2024 Posted February 8, 2024 A bunch of Fever Pitch was filmed in Toronto. I was an extra in that movie, smoking a cigarette outside the school lol

Don't kink shame. While I agree that violence against women is exposed and punished a lot more than it was in 1965 (which is great), we're also a lot more open about sexual kinks than we were in 1965. A woman who likes it rough is openly sharing her fantasy's and desires with a partner is certainly not abnormal. 2. Bauer was felt to be uncoachable by moronic teams that were behind the times and were unhappy that he wouldn't just fall in line and pitch the way they wanted. He was 100% just ahead of the curve and willing to speak up against the old philosophies (most of which were adopted by the best teams in baseball shortly thereafter). Now perhaps he could have expresses his views/opinions and justified his concerns with their approach in a better manner (or maybe he did it in a very polite and constructive way - who knows), but I also suspect there was simply some "old boys" who got their tighty whiteys in a knot because he challenged them - and they come from a generation that believes old people should never be challenged. I guess perception is reality, but I'm not sure Bauer deserves all the blame for that. I find it really sad that teams won't sign him due to PR concerns. Most of those PR concerns are due to the fact that most fans won't even know he was found not-guilty and that the bitch made all that s*** up to try and steal his money. They've already assumed guilt in their minds and are either unable or unwilling to change that. That's a s***** society right there. It's like the Bills punter. Cut, career over - all for false allegations from a party he wasn't even at. f*** society for letting this type of thing happen.

There was no finding of guilt or innocence. Obviously his cause would be helped by a not guilty verdict or by winning a civil case, but he has neither.

The initial accuser made the s*** up about Bauer but there will still other accusers interviewed by MLB. Bauer was never completely exonerated as his suspension was reduced rather than completely thrown out, so while he appears to have been not guilty of the accusations from the primary accuser there were others who testified against him as well with very similar accusations. This is far from a black and white case at this point and given the sealed nature of the investigation we very well may never discover the full truth of the reasoning behind his suspension being upheld.

Tldr Bauer is a douchebag and not worth the negative press circus he’d bring to any team that signed him. End of story
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2024 Posted February 8, 2024 I have the God given right to shame any kink I want! Butt stuff is for THE DEVIL I like that devil guy - BUT - you can't shame anyone these days. That's cancel material. Some people like bad dragons in their orifices and that's perfectly fine. What's really sad is Bauer is cancelled for participating in a kink the woman told him she was into and asked for. In 1965, she probably would never have told him she was into something like that and if he got rough with her (whether she loved it - or hated it), in all likelihood, he wouldn't have been cancelled. She either wouldn't have told anyone, or would have been dismissed for suggesting it.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2024 Posted February 8, 2024 lmao It's kind of important from a PR perspective, Spank-off. Would be easier for a team signing him if he had a not guilty or won a civil case. Guilty people are released every minute due to insufficient evidence. Bauer haters could make a lot of s*** for a team signing him.

Would be a nice piece for a team that wants to be something they’re not, in terms of competing. Lots of teams like that Yeah I think several of the AL or NL Central teams make sense. The Texas teams and the Rays too. The Browns signed DeShaun Watson to a mega deal and his accusations are much more concrete. Bauer can be had for an incentive-laced one year deal.

While he didn’t back off that the girl was a liar… he took full responsibility that his actions were reckless and that he wasn’t going to involved in any of that lifestyle going forward, he just wanted to play baseball. Nah. Saw that clip and it was total theatre. I mean actually accepting partial responsibility and realizing what a douchebag it makes him look like. He said the words because he had to, not because he thinks they were true. That's what is holding him back. You of all people should recognize the obvious sociopathic tendencies in Bauer. He's not actually capable of feeling sorry Edited February 8, 2024 by John_Havok

Obviously his cause would be helped by a not guilty verdict or by winning a civil case, but he has neither. That's not obvious at all. Going to trial and being found not guilty would be much worse than the police deciding they don't have enough evidence to bring charges against him to begin with.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2024 Posted February 8, 2024 There's a lot of layers to signing Bauer. A lot of it revolves around headlines over the years driving narratives about Bauer. His Trumpy online persona (self-reporting for politics) is probably enough for several teams to cross him off the list. But he's really not that bad and he's barely political or in to culture war stuff. But people think he's some sort of full-blown white nationalist because of a couple of headlines/tweets that they saw. Add in the sexual assault allegations and he's toxic for the majority of teams. Yeah he was exonerated but the vindication will never make up for two years of sexual assault headlines. People have already made up their minds by this point. Now here's the real kick in the nuts for Bauer. Baseball journalists HATE him for the aforementioned reasons. Whoever signs him will end up on the end of a thousand hit pieces. The owner themselves will be painting a target on their backs. Journalists will be writing articles with headlines like "Pirates owner's problematic past under scrutiny after Bauer signing." They'll dig up some sexual harassment case from some subsidiary company that the owner owned 20 years ago and use it to smear the owners of the team that signed him. On top of it, how do we know that this is the end of the allegations. Journos will be begging women to come forward with allegations and it could lead to a PR disaster. So whoever signs him really just has to not give a crap about anything and there aren't going to be many teams who fit that bill. But surely there is an owner out there with the courage to do the right thing (build a winner).
Laika Community Moderator Posted February 8, 2024 Posted February 8, 2024 But is Travis Bauer even good anymore? His K9 in Japan was less than during his MLB career. He only won 10 games over there. He is now 33 years old.
