Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 9, 2024 Posted January 9, 2024 I’d take one year of Teo over 2 of IKF but not anything to gloom over I guess. One player has nothing to do with the other.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted January 9, 2024 Posted January 9, 2024 One player has nothing to do with the other. Dollar spent is dollars spent, dbag. I’ll bet your mom tied your shoes until the 4th grade at least.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted January 9, 2024 Posted January 9, 2024 Immanaga signing Thursday at the latest, thought he would get 100 million but it seems like he'll get way less, I think 4 or 5 years at 90 mill
Marew Verified Member Posted January 9, 2024 Posted January 9, 2024 Yea I would do that deal. Trade for Xander and sign bellinger and call it an off-season.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 9, 2024 Posted January 9, 2024 This Teo signing kind of highlights why the KK signing was smart, even though he doesn't appear to be the best fit on paper. KK out WAR'd Teo last year by a good amount and is projected to do so again on a per game basis in 2024. Yet Teo got 1 year and 23.5M (with deferrals) and KK got 1 year and 10.5M.

The KK signing is the Toronto front office saying that: 1. a run is a run, a win is a win 2. they don't believe Varsho is somehow elite in CF but not uber-elite in LF, and that was just 2023 statistical noise 3. the market is not valuing defense properly so they will go ahead and buy defense even if everyone thinks they need offense 4. they think enough offense will come from incumbent regression 5. they can still add thump in other spots 6. depth = flexibility = roster flexibility = trade flexibility

Teoscar has the potential upside of producing a 3-4 WAR season while KK does not. Risk/reward. You're cherry-picking by only using last year's numbers.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted January 9, 2024 Posted January 9, 2024 If Teo doesn't put up 2 WAR in that great lineup...you know the d in LF will be atrocious... negative asset to the clubhouse. Saw enough of the scrub.

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted January 9, 2024 Posted January 9, 2024 No I'm not, I also used the projections which incorporate their career numbers. Yeah I knew you would say that… idk seems like the projections tend to see defense as more repeatable than offense with him. His offensive projections have been consistently wrong every year, except last year which was a career-worst. We’ll see if 2023 was the outlier or if he has another 130 wRC+ season. I tend to feel he’s closer to that 130 number than the 110 projected

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 9, 2024 Posted January 9, 2024 On top of it, I don't think people realize how good KK was last year nor how bad Teoscar was. KK's fWAR was low because they incorporate UZR a lot and KK's UZR numbers were modest while DRS and OAA rated him as elite. That's why he got nearly 4 bWAR last year. Teoscar was helped in that he played 160 games last year so he was an accumulator and also because he had a career year defensively at age 31. Maybe he really did play better defense last year or maybe it was just noise. Either way, I wouldn't expect him to be average or better in the field moving forward. So if he played his typical 130-140 games to go along with his typical defensive numbers he would have been damn near replacement level.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 9, 2024 Posted January 9, 2024 Last 2 seasons, not their career. I thought Steamer incorporates 5 years and Zips does 4.

The fact that it's even somewhat of a discussion highlights how good of value KK provides on modest one year contracts like this.

Im not disagreeing that Teoscar sucked last year and that KK was clearly better. Im just saying I highly doubt that will be the case for 2024. The Dodgers clearly think Teo will rebound, and so do I.

connorp Old-Timey Member Posted January 9, 2024 Posted January 9, 2024 Not sure if mentioned but Cali is now trying to close the loophole on what Ohtani is trying to do with regards to avoiding state tax. A little too high profile lol

Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted January 9, 2024 Posted January 9, 2024 Yeah Duvall would have made the dodgers better for about 3 mill
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2024 Posted January 10, 2024 Stroman still out there, nice target for the Jays. He's worked out of bullpen, come postseason he'd be real valuable IMO

L54 Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2024 Posted January 10, 2024 The Yankees should definitely sign him. They need innings in that rotation
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2024 Posted January 10, 2024 (edited) Stroman was trending yesterday, he informed the Yankees that he was available and they declined or something like that. lol Edited January 10, 2024 by Spanky99
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2024 Posted January 10, 2024 I saw that too lol, not sure I buy it but funny if true
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2024 Posted January 10, 2024 People throw out the craziest s***. Shouldn't be allowed to get away with it. Stroman was trending yesterday, he informed the Yankees that he was available and they declined or something like that. lol
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2024 Posted January 10, 2024 Yeah free speech shouldn’t be allowed. Idiot Free speech doesn’t mean you’re free to slander whoever you want without consequence
Sorrow Verified Member Posted January 10, 2024 Posted January 10, 2024 Gausman is like the 2nd best pitcher in baseball the last 3 seasons and the best in the AL since he’s come over. It always amazes me how people sleep on him
