Ohtani Thread - Special Sheriff's Edition (Update: confirmed going to the Dodgers)

Don’t worry about it Jim, on the old pro sports daily Kenny tried unsuccessfully to accuse me of being a woman. Given the current political climate, he must have been related to Donald Trump, so he has more than enough issues to deal with in his mama’s dark and non ventilated basement.
I'm not Kenny and you made a dupe account, dummy. Sara I believe you called yourself

what I don’t get is how the hell do deferments lower the AAV for luxury tax purposes? What was the point of all these other teams signing guys to 13 year deals? Why not just do 10 with deferrals?

Because the contract doesn’t end up being 10/700, it’s ends up being like 25/700. That’s the simple way to explain it

That’s not true, especially since Sarah came onto the forum and was there, at the same time as I was, discussing the topic. She was a Yankee fan, if I remember correctly, boy did she rip you a new one Reed, and yeah you aren’t Kenny. I’d forgotten how much of a know it all and how much of an insufferable prig you were Reed, I’m surprised they let you on this forum.

You’d think they’d grow tired of your constant abuse I know Wamco sure did, tell me again how many times did he call you an A hole to your face?

And the other guy I think his name was Chaos, or Chaotic, something like that, who never let you forget it?

So like I said I consider the source

Posted
I’m 66, I guess you forgot that too, it’s why I don’t mind you calling me a putz, it’s probably pretty dark and lacking ventilation in your mama’s basement, so I consider the source.

Is your real name Kenny..? If so it explains a lot. If so you haven’t learned anything since we last conversed.

Do yourself a favor. Hang out with JimCanuck, maybe some of his obvious intelligence will rub off on you. Lord knows you need it.

Mike Pelfrey is 39, it was just a joke.

Can we invite JP Hoornstra instead?

Just gauging interest if there is a market on when we were 60% on the pie chart and dodgers at 30%. Will be doing a run of about 50 t-shirts to start at $35 each plus shipping.

I told you all Ohhhtani is going to the Dodgers. Shatkins went all in for him and screwed up Soto too. This off season we are going to do something big he says, yeah get yami, bellinger, and hader and trade for a heavy duty dh, 2024 is shot otherwise

Just imagine… if… Atkins tries to get all 4 of those you mentioned and all other teams outbid the Jays based on Atkins/ Shapiro’s perceived value of what each free agent is worth 👀.

That’s always been these two dorks f***ing greatest weakness that they themselves think they are smarter then the other 29 GM’s and the sports agents…

“Oh we tried, but none of those free agents wanted to come play for Toronto”.

No…. You f***ers never made an offer these guys could not pass up!!! Plain and simple money talks and ******** walks to the highest bidder!!!

Shatkins loves to disappoint. Rogers pretty much gave him carte blanc and he still can’t get any players. I know he can’t get all the players I listed so prepare for a repeat of 2023 or maybe worse. So much for shatkins big moves this winter.

This should be routine, Ohtani's surgeon just so happens to be the Dodgers head team physician

If Ohtani was just a pitcher, what contract would he get this off-season?

What if he was just a hitter? Say RF.

I'd say something like the Judge deal.

And maybe 2/$24 or whatever if just a SP.

Add it to our Mods creed. Anyone quoting Morosi without a proper disclaimer, and any TwistedLogic support gets the death penalty

lol so they overpaid by 300m to save a roster spot but also he plays 2 positions so he is going to burn out faster

WS betting odds after the Ohtani signing and Soto trade.

Dodgers are favorites at +550

Braves +650

Jays, Yankees, Astros, Rangers at +900

Phillies +1000

Orioles +1600

Rays +1800

Seems the Jays are consistently considered favorites to win the division and/or top 5 to win it all, and they massively underperform every single year.

s*** gets tiring

By all accounts, seems like the Jays were literally hours away from winning the Ohtani sweepstakes. At the 5 yard line, but the Dodgers came in last minute with that huge overpay.

f***ing frustrating.

I’ll feel better if we can make a deep playoff run though.

Ok folks I know I hung up my badge months ago but special times call for special measures. We are finalists to sign the greatest player since Babe Ruth and everyone is going to need to be on their best behavior in order to beat the Dodgers and make it happen.

I've been in contact with the mods, the conglomerate corporate hedge fund that owns this web site (they are very happy with our year-end numbers btw) as well as some of the higher ups at Rogers. I have even been in contact with members of the Canadian government who are heavily involved but I can't use any of their names so don't ask.

Basically, what we've all agreed upon is that everyone needs to be on their best behavior from now until the end of the winter meetings next week. Ohtani is a very polite and mild-mannered guy and if he were to visit the preeminent message board in all of Blue Jays fandom he might be shocked by the Wild West nature that we have going on here.

So everyone watch their language and mind your manners or else.

Also, when I spoke with the great Geddy Lee last night (who is very involved in this process) he specifically asked me if there was anything we could do about connorp. I told him that we have blocked all of connorp's posts from being viewed by anyone using a Japanese IP address. He also expressed some concerns about Spanky from the hours of midnight to 5 am and I told him that there's nothing we can do about that since Spanky has been given board immunity but we are hopeful that Ohtani, renowned for his health and fitness regimen, will be sleeping whenever Spanky is awake.

So everyone keep your crap together, at least through the end of the week, or there will be big time penalties. I'm sorry to have to lay down the law again but I'm sure you all understand.

Thanks and go Jays.

Time to hang up the badge forever forever. Mods should lock and nuke this thread

Ok, so let's assume that the Jays offered 10/$600M and the Dodgers swooped in with 10/$700M, and that it was in such a last minute desperation attempt that their trusted reporters basically said it was over for them and even they got duped.

How does this remotely look bad on the Jays or on Ohtani? Or that Ohtani was playing the team? It sounds like he would have legitimately signed here and the Dodgers had to outbid by $100 million, or 16.7%, to stop that from happening. There's no way to know if the Dodgers also offered $600 million or even $650 million that he would have signed with them. Other than from self-hating Jays fans/Canadians who just assume that the Dodgers were and always have been his undisputed #1 choice. Dodgers don't make this massive overpay unless they are 99.9% certain they are losing to the Jays and losing badly.

As for the "Jays always lose to teams like the Yankees" in free agency. Let's review:

Yankees re-signed Judge (doesn't really count as an FA, just signing back their own guy)

Yankees signed Cole

Yankees signed Rodon

Yankees signed LeMahieu

Jays signed Gausman, basically 75% of the pitcher of Cole for 33% of the cost

Jays signed Kikuchi, basically infinite% of the pitcher of Rodon (because he's worthless) for 20% of the cost

Jays signed Springer. And whatever you feel about that deal going forward, it'll be better than LeMahieu

Yeah, the Jays have REALLY been losing to the Yankees when it comes to attracting free agents in the last 5 years /s

Come on, this isn't 2004. Jays have proven that they are a top 10 or even top 5 destination for free agents based on the frequency they get them and the general lack of overpaying they do to get them. This Ohtani saga can only be seen in a positive light for the Jays by the rest of the league. The top free agent in baseball history almost signed here and it took an outbid of $100 million to make it not happen.

More like Ohtani was using the Jays as leverage to get more money from the Dodgers. I don't believe for a second that the Jays were close to signing him yesterday and then mid-way through today, he announces he signed this complicated financial deal (which was at his suggestion), without this being the plan all along.

Dave Winfield, Paul Molitor, Jack Morris, Dave Stewart, Roger Clemens, AJ Burnett, Frank Thomas (until he was treated like a turd here), Russell Martin, Kevin Gausman, George Springer and Hyun-jin Ryu all say otherwise.

Basically whenever the Jays have wanted to sign free agents, they have been able to do so. Up until 1990 they weren't really that active and didn't really need to be because they were winning with their own players and trades. But when it came to supplement the World Series rosters, they basically had the pick of the litter.

Late 90's and early 2000's were rebuilding and transitional years. But when Ricciardi wanted to spend starting mid-2000's, he could spend. Same thing with AA. He signed people when he needed to. Same with this regime. Stop being such self-hating Canadian losers.
