Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 Those names make me puke.. We can't go balls in and then count on those guys, or guys who don't even have a cup of coffee in MLB to be a factor. Well it's a worst case really, and it's also just replacement level filler. The heavy lifting needs to be done mostly by others, all these guys need to do is not drag the team down. And you never know man, Schneider came up and had 2+ fWAR out of nowhere.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 Well, it would leave 3B, LF and 2B kind of question marks I guess?? But there would be Biggio, Espinal, Schneider, Barger, Orelvis, Lantigua, Lopez, Roden, Clement, Horwitz, Morris, Palmegiani, Jiminez to potentially fill out those spots. Some of that mud has to stick right? Second base in easily covered by some combination of Schneider, Biggio and Espinal assuming all 3 are still on the roster come spring time. I don't really think the organization has anyone suited for full time play at third base for next season, although Biggio looked surprisingly competent in his stint there in 2023. Perhaps Palemgiani, Barger and Orelvis could be future options, but Barger has been spending an increasing amount of time in right field, and Orelvis has been spending a lot of time at second base so it doesn't appear the organization is sold on either of these guys as long term third base options. I do think Roden has a great shot to be the left fielder of the future as the dude has done nothing but hit at every stop along the way, but I'd hope the organization would bring in a more proven hitter for full time duty in the chance that Roden isn't able to produce in MLB at this point of his career.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 Signing Yama and Ohtani would be nucking futs. Talk about an embarrassment of riches when it comes to pitching. Gausman Yama Berrios Bassitt Kikuchi Manoah Tiedemann Plus you have a legit ACE in Ohtani tucked away for the future

RobinThicc Verified Member Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 Unless Yamamoto is taking considerably less than what he's expected to sign for, doubt it. Ohtani is not even likely to sign with the Jays, let alone both. Atkins already said they cant get two guys at the top of the market.

We can't go balls in and then count on those guys, or guys who don't even have a cup of coffee in MLB to be a factor. If we did go after Yamamoto then I think we trade one of our starters for help. Biggio/Schneider platooning at 2B is fine. Just need to fill 3B and LF. And who knows, maybe Vlad gets skinny and plays 3B for a season with Ohtani at 1B lol. Then go get a cheap DH/LF from free agency/trade. Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 All the Japanese guys are coming to Toronto. Blue Jays will be a two country team.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 If they could somehow pull Ohtani and Yamamoto.... You probably just dump Manoah to fill one of the holes and then cheap out at the other positions. I'd disagree... think we keep Manoah in that situation strictly due to his cost. We trade whoever gets the bigger return from Berrios/Bassit to offset the salary.

You probably just dump Manoah to fill one of the holes and then cheap out at the other positions. 3rd: Manoah for Reds infielder (Marte, Steer, etc.) 2nd: In-house (Schneider, Biggio, Espy) LF: Dumpster diving. LF is one of the easiest positions to fill in baseball. Renfroe, Duvall, etc. Vets will want to play LF in Toronto if we land Ohtani and Yama.

Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 I'd hate to trade Manoah right now after that s*** season. If he bounces back you'd get a f***ing massive return next off season. Of course, there is a risk that he'd tank his value completely. Hopefully the FO has a good idea if he can bounce back or not. Gausman Berrios Yamamoto Kikuchi Bassitt Hard for him to bounce back though, if he doesn't even have a rotation spot lol God I hope they get Yama

Ehjays Verified Member Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 I'd love to see the Jays somehow get Isaac Paredes from Tampa. If there is any chance at all.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 Pivoting to Yamamoto after losing out on Ohtani would make sense but both would be insane, and very unlikely. But if the Jays can make it happen, then go for it. There are ways to shed salary elsewhere if that dream is even remotely possible.

There is no way Yamamoto asks to meet with us if Ohtani doesn't come here. Trading one of Bassitt/Berrios will be very easy to do while being able to use this as a way to fill 3B/LF.

If the team is offering mega bucks for a prospective contract it's perfectly reasonable for him to meet with the team.
MikeM3 Verified Member Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 Ohtani and Yamamoto is only like a billion dollars. No problem

The report posted earlier in the thread says he went out of his way to ask to meet with us. Just makes sense if that's tied to Ohtani simply because I don't think we'd be the highest bidder when we have major holes elsewhere.

Maybe hes talked to kikuchi. There are numerous reasons why he would choose the Jays that don't include Ohtani Sent from my Pixel 7 using Tapatalk

Like the Heat signing Lebron and Bosh to go with Wade. You could fill out the rest of the spots with ring chasing vets on cheap deals. And then trade Manoah for Fraley or something.

Maybe Rogers is going full in on creating a Japanese super team to completely corner the Japanese media market.
