Jays claim RP Nick Robertson

Might as well try him out. Stuff+ loves his slider, but hates the fastball. Good velo, good K's and good control (except for this year in AAA). Giving up way too many home runs, but maybe there's a tweak to be made to his fastball that could unlock some success.

Alan Roden trying to understand why Stewart Berroa and De Los Santos are on the MLB roster over him.

I know he doesn’t have to be added to the 40-man yet technically but why not. Get a look at him. Prime playing time.

So who killed Will Wagner. 60 day dl all of a sudden?

There probably isn't time for him to come back this year anyway. They're just clearing a spot to take a look at Robertson.

Clase probably would have made more sense as a callup since he's already on the 40 man and I think next season is his last option year, but he's been pretty bad since the trade. Roden was never going to get the call due to him not being on the 40 man roster.

Buck Martinez said on Blair & Barker that he's been dealing with this knee issue since he got here. He apparently has a leg kick when batting but hasn't been able to use it. But now they've seen enough from him that he doesn't need more reps and they can shut him down for the season. Wagner will probably be the strong side of a 2B platoon next season.

Damn, sounds like Varsho might miss some time next year too.

s***!

Now we really REALLY need to sign or trade for a legit OF bat

There should be a huge turnover in the roster this offseason. I'd expect to add 3 relievers, a catcher, 3b, and a LF. The dh can rotate among several players.

Shulman said there's a possibility the Varsho injury may "bleed into Spring Training next year". So that "could" mean he's ready for opening day, but it may also mean he's a little behind and may miss time early in 2025. He's have rotator cuff surgery.

Jays knew of the Wagner knee issue when they traded for him. They told him he's proven enough and doesn't need to play thru it anymore. His surgery is minor and he should be good to go in 6-8 weeks.

Between Loperfido, Clase and Lukes, we should be okay in the early next season. Defense should be okay, but the offense needs to pick it up.

Bichette is getting a bad baseball body... saw him in that sleeveless top... looking tubby and getting fat... no wonder he sucked and got injured this year.

No discussion yet on Chris Bassitt's recent statements? Is he just doubling down and trying to erase any perceived negativity towards the FO? What do the tinfoil hat team think? Edited by Brownie19

Trying to do the James Harden fat body to force a trade?

I think what makes that worse is what the Jays had to do to build that pen coming into the season. A $23m commitment to Chad Green (2023-25), $16m for Garcia, trading a middle of the order bat for Swanson, trading Tellez for Richards, trading Frasso for White, etc. It's not like they built this from the scrap heap, they actually invested a decent amount into it and it completely imploded after the same pen was solid the year before. Given how difficult it has been for this regime to acquire/develop relievers, I really don't know what they can do for 2025 to turn things around, even factoring how volatile relievers can be year to year (meaning the same RPs who stink now may actually be good next season, and vice versa). Have to hope they get lucky with some trades and FA pickups.

As s***** as everyone thinks this team is, please ponder the following.

If you replaced this year's bullpen with last year's (which finished the year with 4.6 WAR) you would add almost 8 wins to our total. That would give us a record of 80-71 which would put us in a tie with the Twins for the WC3 spot.

If Ross can merely build an average bullpen next year, the playoffs will be easy to make.

I'll give you the Teo trade merely because I don't want to debate it anymore. But two mid-tier FA signings and trading turds like Tellez and Frasso are pretty close to scrap heap like moves.
