max silver Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2024 Posted August 25, 2024 Oh look Team Nut Huggers looking dumb af as usual How so? This looks more like a situation where both sides have been somewhat vindicated. Bassitt made controversial comments that were entirely up to the individual to interpret the meaning of, he stirred up a bit of a hornet's nest that likely embarrassed his bosses, and clarified and/or walked the statements back a bit after being talked to by his bosses. So there's little reason to go patting yourself on the back like you've achieved some sort of victory here.

Why not pat themselves on the back? They have worked hard to defend their reputations.

Literally I and many others have patted ourselves on the back quite a bit this season due to victories over "Team Science" which speaks volumes to how out of touch with reality sometimes they really are. As well, some of their responses come across as very arrogant and pompous, so yeah gotta take these victories when they present themselves.

That Bassitt was being critical of the FO and thinks they are s***, but was forced to backtrack on his comments by the FO? Is that it?

He's already been hit 6 times in the majors and had 15 in 57 games this season at AAA. He got hit 25 times in 59 games in 2021, 17 HBP in 69 games in 2022 and 14 in 94 games in 2023. The MLB leader in HBP is at 17 this season. Edited August 25, 2024 by 43211234

I mean I didn't comment at the time but I read those posts, and the response to people saying that the team probably had a talk with him and that's why he clarified what he meant was kind of ridiculous. Complete and utter denial of the possibility even though that is not an abnormal thing to happen in sports. I get why people who argued that would be annoyed and pointing this out now. It's not as if the responses were nuanced.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2024 Posted August 26, 2024 I was at a seminar in Dallas week and sent an email to the CEO, and it’s very big company and CEO, that the company sucked essentially. Kind of like a Jerry McGuire memo. Lots of underperforming assets at the bottom end and handing over the keys to $5m annual revenue assets to people that can’t read a f***ing P&L. Just a classic quality over quantity approach. Like Bassitt, I wasn’t afraid to say it and one could say a bit stupid to say it and I need a filter, but I’d walk to back if I had to, as well.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2024 Posted August 26, 2024 .500 will be easy to make Twins with the longest win streak this season at 12 games. If Jays won 12 in a row, they would sit at 71-68. Need an Oakland A's 2002 type of run to get within striking distance of WC3. Would be fun to see this current group pull off the impossible.

AMS528 Verified Member Posted August 26, 2024 Posted August 26, 2024 (edited) I feel like it would be a good idea to send Davis Schneider down to the minors to regroup a bit. He's slashing .157/.236/.236 good for a .472 OPS and 37 wRC+ since June in 199 PA. He's gone beyond struggling now, he's been one of the worst hitters in the league for three months now. Yeah - I'd be in favour of that. He's a mess - let's give some at bats to other young players.

Apparently JS is back in his corner... Beyond the many metrics we use to measure players, it’s the feel for personalities that allows a coaching staff to decide whether they bench a player or keep rolling them out for another chance. Davis Schneider is a prime example, stuck in a long slump that he can’t seem to shake. If Davis Schneider was immature and overwhelmed by the big leagues, see you later. That’s not the case, though. They trust the person, which is why John Schneider has stuck behind him and reminded his young left fielder that, for about a month in his brief MLB career, he was batting leadoff. It’s in there. Davis Schneider “He was open and honest about it,” John Schneider said, “and if anyone is going to figure something out through hard work, it’s going to be him.”
The_DH Verified Member Posted August 26, 2024 Posted August 26, 2024 Sitting on the bench will not be good for him. Guy needs at bats to get it going again. Buffalo might be the place. He's not doing anything here. If Bichette returns, then maybe Davis's spot should go to him and Jimenez can be the right handed bat at 2b and maybe give Berroa some right handed bats in the outfield.

Laika Community Moderator Posted August 26, 2024 Posted August 26, 2024 Team Science concedes nothing The news essentially just says the front office didn't like his interview. Yeah, no f***ing s***. That still doesn't mean he ever meant the organization or front office is "unfixable" Undefeated

Yeah, no f***ing s***. That still doesn't mean he ever meant the organization or front office is "unfixable" Undefeated I was going to just let it go, but I agree. If I've followed this correctly, they are dunking and claiming victory that the org heard Bassitt's comments and wanted him to clarify himself. Yeah no s***. That's like a grown man dunking on a Little Tykes basketball net. I've yet to see any evidence that Bassitt put his tail between his legs and retracted his original intent because the org told him to (or else!). I mean, he might have - but there's a chance that his clarification is exactly what he meant too. The case remains wide open IMO...likely never to shut.

max silver Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2024 Posted August 26, 2024 Neutral arbitrator has spoken, the science nerds were defeated by the conspiracy theorists to the surprise of nobody except themselves Nobody was defeated here. The whole crux of the argument from the science deniers was that Bassitt was obviously blasting the front office as being some sort of unfixable mess which meant the team was completely ruined until the were replaced. When Bassitt clarified his comments about the unfixable stuff being primarily age and injury issues among various teammates that couldn't be removed as a factor this basically disproved that theory. There's a loss for the science deniers. Bassitt was rightly blasting the front office's mediocre offseason, but at the same time it's also completely true that Ohtani aside free agency was very weak last season. So no victory for either group as there's truth in both stances. Some people opined (incorrectly) that Bassitt might have clarified the comments on his own after being asked about it by Jays beat reporters. There's a loss for the beacons of truth. In the end there's simply no victor in this argument.

He may be a millionaire, but it’d reflect bad on him with other teams.

Just stating the implications of a streak and not what I believe will happen Even if the Jays get to 71-68 with a sweep of the Twins, they likely are 4 to 5 GB of WC3 which is a lot of ground to make up still up over the final month. They definitely have to sweep the Twins this weekend in order to make up ground on them. Season is on the line this week haha. They would have to at least win 16 or 17 of their final 23 regular season games in September after the Twins series which would get them to 87 or 88 wins.
